You’re listening to the Transform Your Life from the Inside Out podcast. This episode is titled Being at the Mercy of the Universe. I think back to several years ago when I was talking to Don Xavier and he just made a flippant casual comment. He said we live in a universe of no mercy. And my original interpretation, my 3D interpretation was, that sounds like a horrible place to live. But he didn’t mean no mercy as in a brutal universe per se. What he meant was the universe reflects us. Meaning whatever we are at both a spiritual identity level, which cannot be defined, and a 3D level, that is an amalgamation of consciousness. And whatever the amalgamation of our consciousness is, the universe reflects right back to us. You know, many people think the universe tests us. It doesn’t test us. It reflects us. So to see how this affects you in ways you’ve never realized, keep listening.
Hi, I’m Jim Fortin, and you’re about to start transforming your life from the inside out with this podcast. I’m widely considered the leader in subconscious transformation and I’ve coached super achievers all around the world for over 25 years. Here you’re going to find no rah rah motivation and no hype because this podcast is a combination of brain science, transformational psychology, and ancient wisdom all rolled into one to take your life to levels you’ve never thought possible. If you’re wanting a lot more in life, to feel better, to heal, to have peace of mind, to feel powerful and alive, and to bring more abundance and prosperity into your life, then this podcast is for you because you’re going to start learning how to master your mind and evolve your consciousness. And when you do that, anything you want then becomes possible for you. I’m glad you’re here.
Okay, so a universe of no mercy. I don’t have a lot of time today, but even though I say that and I’ve got a lot to do today, I wanted to make this a really short episode. I know me. It could go 30 minutes. I don’t know. But anyway, I’m going to try to blow through this pretty quickly, but leave you with some very, very, very tangible takeaways. I’m going to give you some real life realizations in this episode, and I want to talk about a real life circumstance that happened to me, which is actually what prompted me to create this episode. And then what I’ll do after I give you this real life scenario for me, I will actually tie it all back to you and your health and your money and your relationships and all of that.
Okay, what prompted this episode? I’ve got a group of college buddies, some fraternity brothers, that we were all extremely close in college. And there’s a core group of about 10 of us, and four or five in particular, that 40 years later still extremely close, extremely personal. We chat, we see each other, we get together once a year. We just know each other at such a profound level. And I reached out to these guys about 10 days ago, four of them, and I just started the group chat. I’m like, hey guys, you know, what’s going on? Being in a fraternity with them, I probably said something, and I don’t mean this in any kind of sexist way. This is how guys talk to each other. I was probably like, hey, bitches, what are you doing? Or something like that, okay? Anyway, and do not take that in any kind of way sexist. It’s just brothers talking amongst brothers. We chatted for about two days. It was a big, long thread. And we were talking about how they all wanted to come to Colorado to see me. And I have the house, and I live 30 minutes from Purgatory Ski Resort. I live four minutes from the lake. And they’ve all been to where I live in Colorado, and they’re all like, hell yeah, we want to come visit.
One of my friends, we’ll call him John, in this particular thread, we were talking about health and wellness. One of the guys had mentioned, I mean, we’re all like 60 years old. And one of the guys had mentioned he’s got a wrist replacement, another’s got a knee replacement. And John said in the text, he goes, I don’t think I’ll be around as long as you guys. Now, John also had open heart surgery a couple of years ago. I reached out individually and I said, hey, John, what’s going on? I can probably help you out if you would like. Now, John doesn’t know me like you guys know me. He knows me at a heart level, but he doesn’t know any of the content. And we’ve been roommates. We’ve lived together. John’s known me all these years, but he’s not of like frequency and energy when it comes to the spiritual walking and path that I live and that many of you do as well. And he texted me and he said, this is exactly what he texted me. He said, my body is starting to break down and I need all the help that I can get.
Now, what’s the challenge with this? Listen to the profoundness of this because you can apply this to anywhere in your own life. And if you’re not doing well physically, please finish this entire episode. If you know someone that’s not doing well physically, share this episode with them. Notice what he said: My body is starting to break down. And the second I saw that, my thought to me was, and I did not say this to him, two thoughts. Number one, oh my gosh, this is his identity. This is how he sees himself and the capacity of the container that he’s living in. Very simply put, this is his identity. And his identity, which is an ego human based identity, this identity is holding the consciousness that it is breaking down. This is his self-image. And this is his reality.
Now, remember I said, and I titled this episode, we live in a universe of no mercy. The universe corresponds to the frequency of our consciousness, whatever that might be. And the majority of consciousness, their identity, which literally then creates their frequency, is that of toxicity, of fear, shame, greed, anger, jealousy, resentment, and an entire host of negativity. And when he said this, let me go back here, though, and to recapitulate very simply, he holds the identity of this container, meaning his name is John. And John’s body is breaking down because that is his observable experience. And so then he’s holding his consciousness there. The universe shows no mercy. And because that’s where he holds his consciousness, what happens is the universe is going to fulfill that. That’s what they call the law of attraction.
Now, as I look back on this conversation, again, I’ve known John 40 years. If John said, hey, I need you to be in Texas tomorrow, which is where my friends live, which is where I grew up, like that, I’d be on a plane today as quickly as I can get one out of here. And they would be the same for me. But they don’t understand, because they don’t have the experience, that I’ve worked with a shaman now for 31 years, and they don’t understand what that means. And understandably, I understand they don’t understand what that means. Now, what I could have done differently, and this is my fault, I’m going to let it sit for about a week, and I’m going to follow back up with John. I said whatever I said, and he said, no, Jim, quote, the reality is my body is breaking down.
Now, think about that. You think about what the reality is of your life. Think about the reality right now today. Do not project. Do not think about what you want it to be. What is the reality of your money right now? The reality of your living environment right now. The reality of your health right now. The reality of your life right now. And I said, no, John, this is where I lost him. And this is my fault. I said, John, that’s not your reality. That is your circumstance. Your reality is that you are soulful. You are soul consciousness. Consciousness is the fabric of the universe. Everything is consciousness. And he couldn’t register. He didn’t get it. And I noticed he started checking out of the conversation when I said that. Now, I don’t know why he checked out. It could have been like he felt he wasn’t being heard. He could have felt like, oh, shit, there Jim goes on his la-la, la-di-da-land spiritual stuff, you know, out in the air or woo-woo. I don’t know what John thought.
The truth is what I said to John. He’s living from the identity and human 3D circumstance that his body is breaking down. Now, in terms of circumstance, that may be true, but circumstances are effects, and every effect has a cause, and the cause is our consciousness. So what we try to do, we try, which is what he’s doing, and I’ll talk about this in a minute, and I’ll talk about why it does not work. What he’s trying to do is air quote fix the circumstance. He’s trying to fix his health. And evidenced is his text to me saying, I need all the help that I can get, which tells me he’s trying to fix what he perceives to be poor health.
I want to walk through this slowly, but let’s look at this. Okay, at an ego level, at an identity level, he’s thinking, I, John, am in poor health. Now, because I, John, am in poor health, what I learned as a human being, when I’m in poor health, and you can say when you don’t have any money, when you’re lonely, whatever it might be in life, when I’m in poor health, okay, got to call out the cavalry. I have to fix this. But notice the subtleness right here. The second you try to fix anything in your life, you simultaneously project to the universe that something is broken. And then you’re living from the consciousness of something is broken. But then what you try to do is you try to fix what is broken because that’s what we learn to do from a 3D level. Okay? My knee hurts, my elbow hurts, my arm hurts, my head, whatever it is. These are all 3D things. And then we try to fix them in a 3D way. But as we’re fixing them in a 3D physical way, we’re not recognizing that in terms of consciousness and projection, we are projecting that something is broke. And because the universe is a universe of no mercy, what it does is it balances that energy back to us.
Remember I said in the opening, the universe does not test us, it reflects us. So if our energy is broken, 911, I got to get it fixed. And then we start doing things, but we’re holding the energy and the thought if something’s broken, literally, it’s like you’re in a boat and you’re trying to bail the water. You’ve got a hole in the bottom of the boat and you’re trying to bail the water out of the boat instead of fixing the hole in the bottom of the boat. So we humans have learned to bail the water out of the boat. Fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, not recognizing that we have to go to the boat, and the boat is consciousness, because consciousness is the foundation of reality. So most of us are living in the human ego identity of the name and the nationality and the skin color and the height and all these kind of things. These things are what I call our prison. And then what we learn to do, which is why I’ve been talking about the personal development industry is broken, what we try to do, metaphorically speaking, we’re living in a jail cell, which is the human ego and the human identity. So then what we’re trying to do, don’t tell me to leave my jail cell because I like my jail cell and my jail cell is comfortable and I know my jail cell, but you know what? My jail cell needs some work. I’m going to decorate it a little bit. I’m going to paint my jail cell. I’m going to do XYZ to make the inside of my jail cell more comfortable for me as opposed to just leaving the jail cell.
As I was talking about earlier, from the human perspective, most people, I mean most, when I say most, 99.999% of people live what I call a paradoxical life. And that paradox, just like John, the paradox is we perceive ourself in a certain way. And then we think, okay, I have to fight. I have to struggle. I have to claw. I have to plan. I have to execute to fix this. And it can be whatever it is, money, health, relationships, whatever. But the paradox is that actually pulls you backwards and it’s the water in the boat. You’re saying, oh my God, my boat has got a hole in the bottom and I’m going to bail the water out. But meanwhile, I’m going to keep punching other holes in the bottom of the boat by trying to bail all the water out, simultaneously punching more holes in the bottom of the boat.
I’ll tell you how to fix this in just a bit. This person that I’m talking about, John, he’s fighting the breakdown of his body. Now, when I say he’s fighting, meaning this is not going to happen. I need all the help I can get. I’m going to do everything that I can do. And that’s a fight. How about this? When people have cancer, and it’s a big slogan, fight for cancer and fight cancer. And people talk constantly about fighting illness. The truth is, Mother Teresa said, as I understand, I mean, I wasn’t there when she said it. Mother Teresa said, what you fight weakens you. And I heard that 20 years ago, and I recall that, and now I know what that means. Also, what we do for the spiritualist, and the spiritualist could be saying, oh, okay, Jim, I get this. I’m not like John and these other people. I’m going to keep my attention on being well. Paradox again. Do you see it? Do you know why? Because if you keep your attention on, I’m healing, I’m working on myself, and no, no, I’m not fighting at all. I’m not fighting and I’m not upset and whatever you’re thinking. And it gives us some sense of emotional gratification. And to some degree, maybe even some superiority at an ego level, I’m not going to fight it. I’m going to call divine mind, and I’m going to call divine spirit, and I’m going to call the quantum field, and I’m going to let all of them heal me. I’m going to let divine mind heal me. Well, the paradox is, what are you still projecting? You’re still projecting that you’re sick.
Please recognize this. The second you say, I have blank. And it can be in terms of the human ego, positive or negative. Now, John that I’m talking about has said in the past, he said, I have a challenged heart. That is what he said. Now listen very closely. I have a challenged heart is what he said. And people can say, and they say it all the time. They say, I have heart disease. Personally speaking to you listening now, I don’t even like speaking these words because I don’t like the consciousness of them. But people will say, I have heart disease. I have cancer. I have no money. I have a broken heart. And the second you say any of that, you own that in consciousness. Think about that. You own what you speak as a declaration into consciousness. You own that in consciousness. The universe shows no mercy, brings that into your life through consciousness, and then you don’t like what’s brought into your life, and then you fight it through the very same mechanism that you used to create it. I know, crazy, right?
So recognize this. The second you try, let’s talk about manifestation. This is the problem that I have with most manifestation teachers. I think most of them probably mean well, and they want you to have more in life because, see, they have more in life because they’re selling you manifestation courses. I know some very, air quote, big manifestation teachers and beautiful people. But here’s the problem with manifestation. The second you try to manifest anything, you automatically have told the universe that you do not have it. And even though you’re not speaking those words verbatim, you’re speaking the consciousness by what you’re holding in terms of your emotions and your thoughts. And then the universe corresponds to that.
If we look at this very broken, very, very broken human approach, the human approach is, I want that. I don’t have it. I’m going to do things. I’m going to improve myself. I’m going to create. I’m going to do all these things to have all these things that I want, one side of the equation, on the other side is the energy. You’re just literally like texting the universe every time you speak that and telling the universe you don’t have it. And the universe says, okay, kid, you’re projecting that into consciousness. I’m going to show you no mercy. And I’m going to actually bring you that experience that you’re projecting. And I’m going to make sure that you do not have it.
And you know, the interesting thing, and I’ve seen this and I’ve seen it in my own life. I’m not tossing any stones. I don’t have any place to toss any stones. But what we do is from the 3D ego, we say, I’m going to fix XYZ. I’m going to fight XYZ. My body needs help on all these kinds of things. And we get all gung-ho about it. But again, you already understand now the premise behind it energetically. So what happens is we say things like, I’m going to get well. I’m going to get well. I’m going to get well. So then what we’re doing is we’re projecting that we’re not well, and the universe brings that back to you through consciousness. Then we fight even more and even harder saying, why isn’t it changing? Why am I going backwards? Why am I feeling worse? How come I’m not feeling better? Okay, this shit’s not going to beat me. I’m going to fight even harder. You’re just digging your hole even deeper. You have to let go.
Okay. I told you earlier that I would tell you the way out of this. I mean this with a lot of respect and a lot of kindness. Everyone listening will hear this and most still won’t get it. And that’s okay. It is what it is. This is why I did the program called Brainwashed. And by the way, by the time you listen to this, doors will be closed. I’ve been talking about it for a couple of months now and quite a few people registered. And that’s great. If I ever do it again, it’ll be sometime next year. But this is why I’ve been talking about brainwashing. You’ve been brainwashed into believing and identifying as the container of skin you walk around in and the human ego. And the only way to create, to have, to heal is to abandon that part of the ego that needs something. We have to abandon the human ego identity that speaks the words of lack or fighting or you do not have something. This is why one of the most profound things I’ve ever heard, and I’ve said it at least a dozen times on the podcast, Anita Moorjani, who wrote the book Dying to Be Me, she literally kicked the bucket. She flatlined. She said, the surest way to heal is to need no healing.
But listen to what John said: My body’s breaking down. And you can put any circumstance in there for John. You can put your own. My bank account is breaking down. My bank account is empty. My love life sucks. I can’t find anybody. There’s nobody that wants to date me. Doesn’t matter. What you’re simply projecting is I don’t have. And the more you project that in the consciousness, the more you create it. And then the more you fight it because your ego wants it. And then it becomes this massive, massive, massive downward spiral.
Okay, so how do we get out of this? The way out of it is I think back, and here’s something I’ve shared before. I remember a coach of mine saying many years ago, probably 15, 20 years ago, he said, Jim, if I put you in a box and you were trapped in the box and you couldn’t get out, and I told you the instructions to get out were on the outside of the box, how do you get out of the box? Well, you have to get outside the box to see the instructions to tell you how to get outside of the box. Point: You have to get outside, which is why I created Brainwashed. You have to get outside the brainwashing of the human ego identity. Because as long as you’re living in the brainwashing of the human ego identity, guess what? You’re going to be trapped in the box no matter what you do, no matter what you fight. No matter how hard you try, you’re going to be trapped in the box and then you fight the box because you hate the box and you want out of the box. But all you’re doing is building a bigger box.
Now, here’s what I’m going to tell you to be paradoxical. And you’re going to say, Jim, I don’t get it. But the way to heal or to fix your money or whatever: do not fix anything. I’ll say it again. The way to air quote fix your money and your health and your relationships or whatever it is you’ve learned to do, to fix: do not fix anything. Instead, learn the identity of your soul. Learn to work from soul consciousness because your soul doesn’t give a shit whether your bike works or not or you have a place to stay or you can pay your rent. But notice we identify with the 3D identity and that’s where we keep all of our attention. Your soul doesn’t care. So retreat back into the soul and let the soul heal.
And you could say, well, Jim, how the hell is that going to happen? Here’s the thing. I’ve used this a bazillion times on this podcast. There’s even an episode probably three years ago, you might want to go look it up, called Are You Smarter Than a Potato? If I cut my finger, and I’ve used this probably three times in the last two or three months, if I cut my finger, paper cut, and I’m like, ah, cut my finger, okay, you put a band-aid on it, you’re cooking dinner, whatever, you go back to what you’re doing, two days later, you take the band-aid off or whatever you do, and it’s healing or healed. You did nothing. Now, that phrase that I said, do not fix anything, you did nothing to fix your finger. You did nothing to heal your finger. What you did, though, is doing something, but it’s not doing something. In shamanism, they call that the simultaneous doing and not doing. What you did is you got out of the way, and you let divine mind and divine intelligence do what it does. And that’s to return everything to balance. Everything to the natural state of abundance. Everything to the natural state of health and wellness.
But no, we humans, we can’t leave good enough alone. We hear that. We can’t leave it alone. And then we tinker with it, as I’ve talked about, and we make it worse. I think back to many years ago. We’re going to wrap up here. I said it’s going to be shorter. Typical me, I just keep on going. But anyway, we’ll wrap up here in a second. For many years I’ve driven exotic cars, sports cars, whatever. And I knew this guy that specialized in BMWs. I didn’t have to go to the dealership. And on his shop wall, he had this amazing BMW shop. And on the wall, it said, it was very jovial and very, very friendly, it said like a hundred bucks to fix an Audi, 200 bucks to fix a Mercedes, 300 bucks to fix a Porsche, and your BMW, if you try to fix it yourself, the cost is $1,000. Meaning if you try to fix it yourself, you’re going to mess it up. And that kind of encapsulates exactly what I’m talking about. We mess our own lives up by getting in the ego and trying to fix everything. I’m laughing at us. I’ve done it or do it. We get in the ego and we try to fix everything. And while we’re trying to fix everything, we’re simultaneously projecting that everything’s broken, and then we try harder to fix it.
Because if you have a human ego identity like mine, my ego is, and I recognize it, and I’ve had to move out of this. Not that I perfected it, but I’ve had to move out of it. My human ego identity is, I will figure this shit out. You’re not going to stop me. I’ll run through a brick wall. I’m not going to roll over and play dead. I’m not going to be defeated. I will figure this out. I lived that way for 50 years, 55 years, and I recognized as noble as it might sound at an ego level, it’s counterproductive energetically and spiritually.
About Brainwashed, by the way, which is where I guide and mentor and lead people to start living outside of the human ego identity, we closed the doors two days ago. If I ever do it again, and I don’t know because it’s a beta, and I don’t even know if I’m going to want to do it again. If I ever do it again, we’ll do it again. Maybe sometime in 2027. So keep your eyes open and your ears open for that.
So for right now, realize the old phrase: To need nothing is to have everything. To need no healing is to have health. To need no money is to have money. To need no love is to have love. So the whole premise was the universe shows no mercy. Recognize it’s not going to test you. It is going to reflect you. And the harder that you fight against what you don’t want, the more that you will bring back into your life in direct proportion.
Again, if someone that you know needs healing or they’re having challenges, share this episode with them. If you enjoy the episodes, I can’t imagine you would listen if you didn’t, but if you do, please actually go to Apple and leave me a five-star review. Anything less than that, candidly, is not going to help me with the algorithms. I don’t even know if that’ll help me, but it’ll help me hopefully reach as many people as I possibly can. Thanks for listening, and I’ll catch you over on another episode. Bye-bye.
