You’re listening to the Transform Your Life from the Inside Out podcast. This is a throwback episode to episode number 94, How Are You Managing Your Mind and Your Life? In this episode, I talk about literally what I just said, managing your mind. I even mentioned James Allen in the opening, As a Man Thinketh. Now, I do want to point out that even though I’m moving beyond this content to higher level content, for many of you listening, this episode will be very valuable. Because your life and the conditions of your life directly reflect how you manage your mind, your individual mind. And if you want to create a better life, you’ve got to create better management of your individual mind. So if you’d like to be more, do more, and have more in life, listen to the episode, apply, and create the life experience that you want. Enjoy the episode.

Before I get started today, I do want to apologize because I know the last episode, I told you that this episode was going to be about how to handle being in a sexless marriage. And to be candid with you, I really wanted to create that episode because it’s not just about being in a sexless marriage, because there are many things that contribute to a sexless marriage that can be analogies and metaphors for other ways and beings in life, or ways of being in life. And many people are not getting what they want for the same thing that might be causing people to be in sexless marriages. Now, I’m not talking about sexual issues and things like that. We’ll get into it on that episode. But the reason I decided to do this instead, just being 100% transparent, is I’m traveling. It’s been a long day. And I really don’t have the energy or want to devote to time right now excuse me, to really lay out how I want to lay out that episode on how to handle being in a sexless marriage. Because literally, this is something that affects a lot of people, and I want to do that episode justice. So that’ll be next Monday.
All right. So this week, this will be short, but I want to give you a way, and I might have mentioned it in the podcast before, but I want to mention it again, is I share this with my students all the time, the metaphor that I’m going to give you, and it resonates with people. And I know because they tell me, and I know that it also resonates with me. This is something that I learned from my brother-in-law, Don Xavier, the shaman. And he was talking to some people a while back, and I was listening in, and he was talking about how we manage our lives. I mean, how we manage our thinking and then how that affects our, you know, our ways of, obviously our ways of being and then the things that we do and the outcomes that we get. And the metaphor that he used, and like I said, I might’ve used it here, but you know what? Here’s the thing I know also, because I know it applies to me. If it applies to me, it applies to you. is that many times we hear something and we’re like, hmm, yeah, okay, yeah, uh-huh, uh-huh, I get it. And we really don’t get it. And we think that we get it, but we don’t. And then later we hear it again and we hear it in a different way or at a different time and we’ve got a different focus or different attention and we hear it and we’re like, boom, okay, that makes perfect sense.
So the metaphor is this, let me just share with you. And I say that because you might think, well, Jim, you’ve already said that. Yeah, I have. maybe, and how well did it serve you the first time you heard it. And the metaphor is this, is what if, for example, you were a factory, whatever phrase you want to use, you were a factory foreman or manager, and it was your job to manage every aspect of the factory. And when you look at the outcome and the production of the factory, guess what? That’s always a reflection of management or foreman. I’m going to use the word foreman. So to whatever the degree that the foreman is skilled, that will determine the outcomes and the output at the factory. But the same thing applies to you, metaphorically speaking, is to whatever degree you are a foreman of your mind and of your thinking, that will determine the outcomes that you have in your life. And it stands to reason, and you’ve heard me say before, just colloquially, you know, we need to get off using the words good and bad, but I’m going to use it for this episode, is If you are a good foreman, well, then guess what? You’re going to get good production. If you are a bad foreman, then guess what? You’re going to get bad production. So if you look at your life, do you have good production and good outcomes in your life? Or do you have bad outcomes and bad production in your life? Because guess what? You are the foreman of your mind. Because see, plain and simple is your life. And when I thought about what to do today for the episode, I was looking through some just old notes I had on my phone listening to my brother-in-law. And I started, I thought there I hadn’t finished yet, is that your life, no matter how air quote, how good or bad it is, is a reflection of how good of a manager you are, a foreman, with your thoughts.
So the question I have, and it was on some notes on my phone, is how good and how careful are you with your thoughts. As you’re listening to me say that, the first thing you’re going to do is get into self-deception. And you’re going to say things like, you know what, Jim, I’m a really, well, I’ll give you an example. People say I’m a really positive person, yet their bank account is empty or they’re in a job they hate or a relationship that doesn’t work for them. Well, guess what? It’s also your thoughts, even though you might be an air quote positive person. It’s also your thoughts that you were being a foreman with that created that situation where you’re at that job that you hate or you don’t have enough money in the bank. So you might say, oh, I’m really, really good with my thoughts, Jim. Well, if that were true, then how come you’re getting outcomes in life that you do not desire?
I say that. Because a great deal, and I’m looking in the mirror on this as well, and I have for many years, is that a great deal of what you think on a daily basis is counterproductive and negative. And if you don’t believe me and you want to challenge me, just simply just, you know, stop for a second and look at all the thoughts going through your mind for the past two hours. What things have been going through your mind? This traffic sucks. Why am I always late? My boss is a so-and-so and so-and-so. I wish my kids would behave. My mother’s this. My father’s that. I never have enough money. Why does my back hurt all the time? And you know what? When are they ever going to finish with this construction or this traffic in town? I think you get the point. And if you’re like most people, you heard yourself in there somewhere. But what we do is we fool ourselves and we say, no, no, I’m like, I’m a really positive person. And I read all the books and I stay positive every day. But yet at a deeper level, we’re running a lot of negativity and we’re not aware. to say running, thinking, meaning thinking, we’re having a lot of negative thoughts and thinking, but we’re not aware that we’re doing it.
And then what comes in for all of us is the law of attraction. I highly encourage you to actually, I think it’s my second most downloaded episode or third most downloaded episode. And by the way, I’m going to come back. I’m going to jump around here a little bit is thank all of you. Most likely going to hit 1 million downloads this year, next month. And I want to thank every one of you literally for listening, for sharing, for commenting, for sending in your questions. I mean, I couldn’t do this work without you guys. And that also tells me I’m on the right track with you guys and that I’m giving you content that you want. And transformational content, we would not have that kind of response rate in our very first year. So I definitely want to say thank you very much.
You may want to go back and listen to, and I know I recorded it as episode number nine, but the way that iTunes, if you’re listening on iTunes, it flips them upside down. So it’s one of the earlier episodes, episode like 87 or something like that. But it’s about how people use the law of attraction to repel. And when you look at your thinking, I look at, well, how good of a foreman are you? Because whatever you’re thinking is what you’re attracting. The law of attraction, I remember reading, it was pretty comical, this lady on Facebook, and she just didn’t understand. This was a long time ago. And she said, that law of attraction stuff just doesn’t work. She goes, I just don’t have any money. That law of attraction stuff is a bunch of hogwash. Well, what she didn’t get, she did really, I mean, just, it’s so simple, but so, it’s so simple, but so elusive for a lot of us, is that her life was a perfect reflection via the law of attraction. Her life was a perfect reflection of her thinking.
Now, let’s all of us, everyone listening right now, stop for a second. Well, not literally stop. I mean, let’s just stop our thinking for a second. If you’re in traffic, do not hit the brakes. Look at your life. Seriously. Get really honest with yourself and look at your life. How great is your, if you even have a relationship. Maybe you don’t have a relationship. What does your bank account look like? What is your health? What does your life look like? Because guess what? Your life is a perfect reflection of how well that you’ve been managing the factory and how good of a foreman that you have been. And like I said, the factory of the mind, your life is a 100% reflection of that.
I remember my brother-in-law saying one time to me also, it just caught me by surprise when he said it, is he said, we live in a universe of no mercy. What that means is, is we don’t get do-overs. Well, we do, but we don’t. So whatever thought you put out is like a homing pigeon. It goes out and it goes out in the universe like a boomerang. But here’s the thing is we don’t get to say, oh, universe, I was just kidding. You know, hey, please take it easy on me because all those things that I said and all those mean things that I did to people, you know what? Hey, universe, let’s go to a clean slate. Let’s just wipe it clean. Hey, universe, you know, all that thinking that I was thinking about how hard it is to make money and all that kind of stuff. Let’s just give it a clean slate. Never, you know, never happened, but give me money anyway. Well, it doesn’t work that way. And when he’s, you know, when he said to me, we live in a universe of no mercy, plain and simple, what you put in is what you get out. What you think is what is reflected back to you. And that’s why the topic this week is, how are you managing your mind? How are you managing your thoughts? Or are your thoughts managing you?
When I talk about the universe reflecting you back to you, do you really, really get it? And I’m going to just be honest here. There were many years ago. I have been reading personal development books for a lot of years, and I’ve literally read thousands and thousands of books over the years, all the classics. And I used to be one of those people also back in the, I don’t know, as the late 80s, early 90s, a company called Nightingale Conant. They have personal development content with many famous speakers and authors. You could rent their programs on audio cassette. And I used to walk around with the Sony Walkman back in the late 80s, and I was always listening to a personal development program. I was kind of like, I think I’d mentioned before Tom Cruise in that movie Cocktail, where he’s always got some kind of personal development book behind the bar.
And I remember many, many years ago, I was waiting tables after college. And I remember it was Ruth’s Chris Steak House and I’m waiting tables. And I was listening to an audio book of Brian Tracy. And I’m like, you know, yeah, I get it. Yeah, I get it. This all makes sense. This makes sense. And I look back now, 30 years later, I’m like, yeah, Jim, if you really got it, then why were you waiting tables after you had two, you know? I got double degrees from a good school. Why were you and what caused you to allow yourself to wait tables for 500 bucks a week 30 years ago? You know, would you have done that had you really got the content in the audio books and in the books? So as I’m sharing this with you, many of you are like, yep, Jim, I get it. I get it. I get it. Well, if you don’t have what you want in life, guess what? You don’t get it. And also when I say, if you don’t have what you don’t want, I know we’re always aspiring to new and different and more and bigger and better and different things. I get that. But if you’re struggling, let me put it that way. If you’re struggling and in and out of relationships and always chasing money, then guess what? You can read all the books in the world, but you still don’t get it that you’re not being a foreman of the mental factory and you’re not managing it in a way that creates the outcomes for you that you want.
Pretty simple here is I call it content versus context. And that’s actually one of the earlier episodes. It’s also one of the most downloaded episodes on subconscious reprogramming. I think it’s one of my first five episodes. You can read content all day long. You can read Think and Grow Rich all day long. But if that content, which is nouns and verbs and participles and, you know, sentence fragments and all that kind of stuff and adjectives and et cetera, et cetera, you can read that content all day long. But if you are not that in your context, which means your brain-based habits and your subconscious identity, it doesn’t matter how much content you read. It’s going to literally like bing. It’s going to bounce off like throwing a penny at a, I don’t know, into a stainless steel bowl or something. It’s bing. It’s going to bounce out. We have to be the context. That being said, to help you manage your thinking, go back to the earlier episodes and download the one or listen to the one on the power of your subconscious mind.
So I want to share a truth with you also, then we’ll wrap up here in just a couple of minutes. And this in the past has included me, and I did as well learn this from my brother-in-law. And when I say my brother-in-law, the shaman, what’s so interesting is I’m here laughing at myself because I remember somebody, but I’ve worked with him by his side. I’m actually with him now for 25 years. And the reason that I mentioned him, because even like Wayne Dyer, the famous author one time said, Jim, I would go anywhere, anytime, anyplace to meet your brother-in-law. Just tell me when and where. Because the work that he was involved with is extremely, extremely well-known around the world. And so I’m a little reluctant to keep mentioning him, but the reality is this. If people like Wayne Dyer wanted to meet him and he impacts millions of people per year when he’s on the planet, why wouldn’t I also share what I’ve learned from him with you? But I was laughing at, it was just kind of just popped in my mind where this lady one time said, Jim, you have hero worship. You worship your brother-in-law. Well, no, it’s not like that. I mean, it’s if you’ve got a mentor that literally can transform your life and millions of lives, why would you not share that mentor with people?
But here’s something he said to me. Anyway, back to topic again. Here’s something he said to me, and it’s true, is he said, I’ll just tell you why he said it. A lot of people ask me if I will ask him if he will take them on ayahuasca journeys. He does not do that. Does he have the ability? Yes. But he also can go beyond the ability and take people on journeys without having to ingest ayahuasca. And a lot of people will say, you know, Jim, can he take me on an ayahuasca journey? And he won’t do it for a couple of reasons. But one is this. He says people that do ayahuasca, what they’re wanting is they’re wanting the outcome, they’re wanting the experience, they’re wanting the epiphany, and they’re wanting it now like Amazon Prime. And he has the ability to take people to have those same epiphanies where they actually have, it takes more work and more time on their part, but he has the epiphany, he has the ability to lead people to have similar experiences without ingesting the medicine, the ayahuasca.
But my bigger point, is that he said, everybody wants easy and now. So, okay, give me the ayahuasca. I pay you whatever amount of money. Boom, boom, boom. Guzzle, guzzle, guzzle. I drink it down. Whoa, life-changing experience. And I want to share something with you here also. People come from all over the world to him for healing. His waiting list is a year and a half long, but people come, they either come because they want to grow spiritually and they want to evolve. Or they’re looking for physical healing. I mean, I was with my sister today. She sent me a picture of somebody that just had brain surgery yesterday. And he assists people to heal energetically. But he was mentioning about, I’m just taking it for what it’s just whatever. I’m just going to share this with you. Take it, leave it entirely up to you. But he said that a lot of people that come to him have also had, they’ve done ayahuasca. But here’s the thing. And I’ve never talked about this on the podcast. But when you do things like ayahuasca, you literally energetically leave your body. And he said the problem is a lot of people who lead journeys don’t have the ability to fully integrate people back into their bodies again. It’s like taking a glove off your hand. You can take the glove off, like you can travel energetically. You can take the glove off, but if you don’t put it back on perfectly, it doesn’t fit as well. And he said when people take people on ayahuasca journeys, many times they don’t have the ability to help people integrate back in the body. And then that matriculates into people having nightmares and they’re sick all the time. And they’ve got all these things happening to them that are counterproductive as a result of doing a journey with a person that’s not qualified to take them on a journey. Anyway, food for thought, that’s my public, that’s my PSA, off topic and everything else. But a lot of people that follow me, I know are pretty progressive thinkers.
All right. So here’s the thing I want to share with you. is that mastery in life, even with their thinking, mastery comes with attention and repetition. This is why you look at Olympic athletes. I mean, it’s not like they go out and skate once or swim once or dive once or whatever. Like, oh, I’m a master now. No, it’s the repetition and the attention that creates the mastery. And when it comes to you being a better foreman, there’s no need to beat yourself up. There’s no need to get on yourself. There’s no need to say, oh, I’m a bad foreman. There’s none of that. No, simply recognize. What you’ve heard me say before is you are where your attention is. And if you’re not getting the outcomes that you want, it’s because you’re not being the foreman to get those kind of outcomes. We simply move your attention with repetition. There’s also an earlier episode, one of the first five, also one of the top five downloaded episodes on habits, is that you want to habituate becoming a better foreman of your thinking.
So remember what I just said. And even if you think that you get it, here’s another illusion. And by the way, I don’t have any notes here and I’m jumping around a little. Is so many times we think, oh, and I’ve been there. Oh, I know that. And as I said earlier, you really don’t. The most powerful way to approach life and to approach this episode would be to say to yourself, okay. I hear everything you’re saying, Jim. And you know what? A part of me is saying, well, I already know that. But you know what, Jim? Another part of me is going to say, maybe I’m going to act like I’m hearing all this for the first time. And I’m going to be like an open, you know, I’m going to open my mind. And I’m going to absorb and I’m going to examine my life to see how much of this I think that I know, but I actually do not know. What I’ve learned over the years is that most of us, and this is also brain-based, most of us don’t learn. Because once we think we already know something, in that moment, we stop learning. The most powerful way to learn and to grow and to evolve is to come empty, meaning I am an empty vessel. Let me fill it up with what you’re sharing with me. And let me examine it in a new way, in a different way, from a different perspective.
So, you know, you might think, oh, you know, Jim, I already know all this. And you’re just talking about positive thinking, which I’m not. But look at your life. And if you have and you’re getting the outcomes that you want, Congratulations. Great job. You’re being a pretty good foreman. But if you’re struggling in life and you’re not getting the outcomes that you want, guess what? You might want to fire the old foreman and hire a new and better skilled foreman.
Your takeaway this week, your transformational takeaway is you’re the foreman of your mind and your life is a reflection of how good or how poor of a foreman that you are.

Okay, the next episode is going to be something that I don’t know why I’ve never talked about on the podcast. I learned this in shamanism and it’s not new to shamanism, but I want to talk to you about the power of your morning ritual. And I want to share with you what my morning ritual is. And I want to share with you how I create what I create by actually using my morning ritual to plant my intent and to set my intent for my day.
Okay, thanks for listening and do what you can to make it a great day today. All right, bye-bye.
