The Jim Fortin Podcast
EPISODE 229: “The Quality Of Your Life Is Dependent Upon…”
August 3, 2022
“The quality of your life is dependent upon the quality of questions you ask yourself.” Richard Bandler
What does that mean? The phrase was coined by Richard Bandler, the co-developer of NLP (NeuroLinguistic Programming).
It means, as seems obvious, the more and better questions you ask yourself, the better quality of life you will create. And, who doesn’t want a better life?
So, what kinds of questions do you ask yourself?
What I have found is that fewer people ask questions about how to change their circumstances over why they are in their circumstances.
Whatever your circumstances, you created them. It does not matter why you keep creating them or lamenting about them. What matters is what questions you are asking to improve your behavior, circumstances and life.
In this episode I ask you a series of simple questions that you can ask yourself, and I share with you the strategy that I use when I just don’t know what to ask or what I think I’m looking for.
Make a mental note, your future questions are not to be so much about where you are or how you got there but how you can do things differently and how you must think differently.
What I have noticed over the years is that often people go into what I call “resignation.” When they don’t know the answer to something they simply quit or resign themselves to their circumstances.
As I mentioned, I also share the strategy that I use to get answers from my higher mind and you have to listen to that to hear my personal process.
Transformational Takeaway
The quality of your life is dependent on the quality of questions you ask yourself. If you want to create, be or have more in your life, then ask better questions.
More Jim!

E229
You're Listening to the Transform your Life from the Inside Out podcast. This episode is titled The Quality of Your Life Is Dependent Upon the Quality of Questions You Ask Yourself. That phrase, as I understand, was coined by Richard Bandler, who is one of the code NLP-ers of NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming. And the whole thought behind this phrase is that the better question you ask yourself about why you do what you do and how come you're not getting what you want and ask yourself questions about your obstacles and your fears and your limitations. The more questions you ask. The better questions you ask, the more answers that will come and the better quality of life that you will have. So obviously this episode is about asking yourself better questions so that you can create a better-quality life. Keep listening.
Hi, I'm Jim Fortin, and you're about to start Transforming your Life from the Inside Out with this podcast, I'm widely considered the leader in Subconscious Transformation and I've coached super achievers all around the world for over 25 years here, you're going to find no rah rah motivation and no hype because this podcast is a combination of Brain Science, Transformational Psychology, and Ancient Wisdom all rolled into one to take your life to levels. You've never thought possible. If you're wanting a lot more in life to feel better, to heal, to have peace of mind, to feel powerful and alive and to bring more abundance and prosperity into your life. Then this podcast is for you because you're going to start learning how to Master your Mind and Evolve Your Consciousness. And when you do that, anything you want then becomes possible for you. I'm glad you're here.
Okay. So, the quality of your life is dependent upon the quality of questions you ask yourself. What do you think about that when you hear that statement? When you think to yourself, the quality of my life is dependent upon the quality of questions I ask myself. So, the next question that I have for you. What overall questions do you ask yourself? I wanna share a brutal truth with you. If your life is not improving and you find yourself stuck in the same rut over and over and over again, it's pretty simple. You're not asking yourself the right questions to create change and different circumstances in your life, which definitely means this episode applies to you.
What I've noticed over the years is that most people do not ask questions to improve the quality of their life or to improve their circumstances. What I've noticed is that most people ask questions about why, how come what's the cause of their circumstances? Rarely do people ask. How do I get out of this? How do I do something differently? How did I even get here in the first place what a lot of people ask is, how come me? Why is this happening to me? Why me, why me? What did I do to deserve this? And they're not asking the right questions and that's why they're not getting the, let's just use the word, right answer to move them to the next level in life. You know, something that's been crossing my mind. For quite some time doing the podcast. I had people of all different socioeconomic and spiritual and life levels listening.
I had people that I know their company makes millions and millions of dollars per year. I had people struggling for, you know, hey, paying their bills and paying their car payments and putting food on the table. What I wanna point out. What I'm sharing here applies to all of us, me included at all levels, because if you're making a hundred million dollars a year, you're attracting a hundred million dollars per year, and you want to go to the next level and you find that it's challenging to do that. You need to ask yourself better in different questions. If you're struggling to get. You do the same thing over and over and over again, you need to ask better and different questions, but different questions from the one or the person that's making a hundred million dollars a year. So, when it comes to asking questions, let me ask you some questions. Are you the type of person who says, what do I need to change in myself and about myself to create different life circumstances, or are you the kind of person that simply is upset? And doesn't like, where you are in life and candidly, you have bitch and you moan and you complain, you know, you complain about it, you know, have you asked yourself what needs to be improved in my life?
What do I need to do more of? What do I need to do less of? What do I need to start? What do I need to? And I wanna point out right now that many people are thinking concretized things. They're thinking about physical behaviors. And remember the name of this podcast is transformed your life from the inside out. And we do that at the level of thought, the podcast is not called transform your behavior from the inside out, which is behavior. We always wanna look at things at the level of thought. The level of how we process information, because all change is gonna start right there. You know, other things that I look at is do I really want what I think that I want? How would my life be different if I did have what I want? How would my life be worse if I did have what I want?
So, there's all kinds of questions we can ask ourselves. And I don't think any set of questions, or one set of questions pertains to everyone. It's a myriad of questions and its variable questions that apply to all of us. I also wanna share here that asking questions is not about getting into overthought and getting into paralysis by analysis. Ask a question, ask a question, ask a question at no, that's not what this is about. This is about asking ourselves. Insightful questions, things that give us clarity so we can take action. Because when we have clarity, many times we don't take action because we don't have clarity. And when we have clarity and by the way, I often say that action creates clarity because the answers will many times come to you through the action, because you're not gonna know the answer, which is what you're looking for, which you ask the question until you take action. And then when you take action, the clarity starts coming.
But anyway, we many times get into, especially the, overthinkers get into thinking and thinking and thinking. So, when I talk about asking better questions, it doesn't mean to overthink that and overthink that and just ask better overthought questions. That's not what it means. Again, to be repetitive here. It means to ask questions that create clarity so that you can take action and create movement in your life. Let's talk about something simple here. Okay. Is let's talk about something that you want in your life, and you have not yet created it. Think about something right now that you desire to have in your life, and you have not yet created it. That could be a job that could be a partner. It could be a dog. I mean, it doesn't matter what, you know, what is it for? For many people listening right now, it's going to be money and financial security and financial abundance. And then what many people do is they fight their circumstance. When they're the person who created this circumstance, when what we wanna do is we wanna step back and we wanna look at, okay, what kind of questions can I ask?
Now? I think I ask this a couple of minutes ago, but whatever you don't have yet, this one circumstance we're talking about, ask yourself. Maybe it's the new house or a different job or a new car or the dog that I had mentioned or whatever we have to ask yourself. Do I really, really want this in my life? Other questions? What will it do for me? What will it give me to have this thing? That's a big question. A lot of people don't ask themselves many times. People want something because they want the thing. But they don't think about what this is giving me. And many times, people are, are looking outside of themselves and they're looking for the thing that, that they're wanting to give them something that really comes from the inside, not the outside.
That's why when they get the thing, they like the thing, whatever it is for a bit. And then before, you know what, they're back to being unhappy again, because what they're looking for is not the thing that, that they think they're looking for. You know, another big question is. And this applies to a lot of people. I want X, Y, Z, but a question is, how come, why have I done nothing or little about creating it? Another question is if I haven't created it, how am I being an obstacle to that thing that I want to create? Another question, what excuses have I made? Not to do the behaviors, to create the outcome that I want another question, what causes me to make all those excuses and that I'm gonna give you listening right now. The answer it's fear. And then we can ask herself, what fears am I getting into? Because the reason you're not taking. Plain and simple it's because of a fear.
And for most people, that fear is you're going to lose what you have as you reach for something else I do wanna point out, and this is a little bit brutal, but the reason you're afraid to lose what you have when you're trying to reach out for something new or bigger or better or different than life plan and simple is because you don't believe in yourself. You do not believe that you can create the bigger and better and different in your life. Therefore, you hang onto what you have because you don't wanna lose that. And what you're not really addressing here is you're looking at the external world, the things that you want to create, but a more powerful question is, is what fears and what choices I am making by fear ponder that.
What fears are driving me and what choices? Here's the question? What choices am I making? Because of, or by the fear now, I don't know when it was 2, 3, 4 months ago. I did an episode on the most powerful thing you can do is embrace the fear in your life because you can't grow. You will never grow. beyond what your fear is. And the comfort level also is fear and anxiety. That's why we stay in it. So again, even though I said that, and I'm sure a lot of people forgot that, or didn't hear it is what fears am I getting into? And then look at where I segued. There are your fears actually are preventing you from growing Spirituality.
I don't mean to sound, you know, what's the word here, you know, hyperbolic or any of that or hyperbolic or however, the word is said, I don't mean to get in the hyperbole, put it that way, but here's the thing is you have no fears at a spiritual level, not a thought level, but a spiritual level. You have no fears and there are things in you that want to come. And when you get into your fears, which is ego, which is 3d, which is what I call your tonal T O N A L you're literally shutting down your higher self, your spirit, your soul. And when you get into those fears, those fears are trapping the greater part of you. And I share that for a reason, because you might want to ask some questions because many people who listen to the podcast are spiritualist. You might wanna ask yourself some questions about what I just said about fears and what it's really shutting down in you.
Okay. So, I want to segue for just a moment away from the episode. I don't know where you are in life when it comes to your money, but a lot of people are very nervous and scared about what's going on in the world. Now, I don't know where you are, but I know that you probably fall in one of three categories. So, I'm gonna share these with you. And I'm curious, which category do you fall into category number one is your living paycheck to paycheck and barely getting by. Category number two is that you are what I call a just enougher just enough. Money comes money goes out and you basically have just enough to pay all of your bills and everything that you think you might need without any extras. And you have just enough. And then the third category is that you're doing really well financially, and you want to do even better. Now. I don't know where you are and in which category, you know, you recognize yourself, but I'm sharing with you. I can help you with any of these categories. The reality is this. If you're like most human beings, you want more wealth, you want more abundance. You want more, more prosperity in your life. That being said on August the third, I'm going to be doing a live training. And the training is actually in two different days, and it's titled how the law of attraction repels the money and abundance you want and how to become rich. In this training, I'm going to cover the six pillars of some very powerful things that I've learned over the years that have quite literally, and before I finish this, they're, they're very practical. They're very empirical. They're, they're not about investing in real estate and stocks and bonds and all of that. They're very practical, but there are things that are quite literally that.
I've learned have taken me from almost being homeless many years. Living on a fraternity brother's couch having very little to no money. Some days, no money, eating macaroni and cheese for dinner and tuna. And it's taken me from there. What I'm gonna share with you to the life that I live today, the life that I live today is one of affluence. I'm very comfortable financially, actually extremely comfortable financially. And I'm gonna share these principles with you in this live training. I'm gonna break it all down for you, and I'm gonna show you how you can literally, and I do mean literally transform your life around money and wealth and prosperity. I'm gonna show you literally how to transform your relationship with money. And I wanna give you a little hint. The title of this podcast is transforming your life from the inside.
The same thing applies to money. You have to transform your money from the inside out, not the outside in which is what pretty much everyone has learned to do, and it doesn't work. That's why they're struggling with money. For the most part, you can go to jimfortin.com/money. jimfortin.com/money. You can find more details there and you can get registered for this training. I wanna share with you also, my podcast, I've had millions of downloads of this podcast and many, many followers. And what I'm telling you is that many people are also gonna be promoting this. And there's only 1000 spots available in this training. I'm just telling you right now, if it's like any of my other trainings, that's gonna fill up very quickly. And when we had a thousand people, that's the end of our call lines. We're done the doors. So, get registered very, very quickly before, again, we fill up which we will do. So, if you're interested in transforming your life around money and easily, and believe me, it is possible when you actually work in the right way, meaning you work mentally in the right way. It's very easy to bring a lot more money into your life. And I know that because I grew up really poor and today, I am not in that same place. And again, I'll show you step by step. I'll show you exactly how to do what I did, that there are very few, if any people really talking about it in the way that I am, that you can apply it and you can actually use what you learn in that live training to start transforming your life right away. Go to jimfortin.com/money. There's a whole page on it, all the details, et cetera. So, get registered and I will see you on this live money training.
Okay, let's go back to the episode. Here's another big one. What fears am I getting into that I don't even know that I'm getting into ponder that because I'm gonna talk about that in just a minute about questions that I ask myself, but the question was is what fears I am getting into that I don't even know that I'm getting into. I could cut this episode off right now and let you sit with that. And, you know, if you sat without one question, I bet. I bet you might be shocked at what starts coming to you in time. Because by virtue of asking the question, you're asking your subconscious mind to bring you an answer somewhere. Another question is this, as many people want to achieve things, but the question would be is what resources or tools. Do you need, meaning asking yourself what resources or tools do I need to make that happen? So, I think you're getting the point here is that we want to ask, and I'm gonna work at a couple of different levels here.
This is a very fundamental level that I'm working at right now, but we want to ask better questions because when we ask better questions, we can move through the obstacles and limitations that keep us from having what we want in. I'm gonna segue a couple of places here right now. A very good friend of mine. She will be on the podcast soon. Her name is Shama Hyder and Shama, I have known for many, many years now over a decade and she's a good friend and I was one of her, if not her first social media client back in the late 2000. Shama today is one of the most successful people in the world and owns a company that's one of the most successful for digital marketing, you know, years gone by her was recognized by business week and Forbes. And I think she's a contributing writer now to Fortune magazine. LinkedIn calls her one of the top 10 marketing experts in the country, if not even the world, but Shama and I were having a conversation a long time. And she said, Jim, I think something that stops a lot of people is they don't ask questions.
And when they hit a wall, instead of asking questions, they just stop. And I'm not judging here because I used to be the various same way, many times when I would hit a wall, I wouldn't ask questions. I would go in the resignation is where most people go, and resignation is shut down. And what I've learned over the years is okay, number one, there really aren't any walls. That's simply a matter of my perceptions and interpretations. I'm making it all up in my, in my mind, but secondly, I'm on the planet. And when I do hit a wall, what questions do I need to ask myself to scale the wall, to get over the wall now? Resignation is basically saying I can't, there's no way I can't do that. And I remember one of my coaches one time saying to me, he was a transformational coach and a very good one. And he said to me, he had asked me a coaching question. And I said, I don't know. And he said, that's a lazy answer that is not allowed. That is not allowed ever again, when I'm coaching you. And trust me when I tell you after that day, I never said, I don't know again, when he asked me a question again, we're talking about questions because many of us go into, I don't know.
And then when we get, I don't know, we collapse, we start, right. You know, we stop not start. We stop right there, and we collapse. And then what we do. We forget about it. We go back and to are old patterns and then a month and a year later, we're still living the same scenarios and same circumstances over and over and over and over and over again. Okay. So, we've talked about some very 3d things at that level. We've talked about analytically asking yourself questions. Now you might be thinking, okay, Jim, I don't know what questions to ask. I wanna share a couple of things here. Number one is a question that just popped in my mind years ago. And it's a question that I ask myself. I ask myself this question both consciously and I ask my subconscious mind and divine mind. That question is, are you ready? The question is, what am I not seeing that I need to be seeing? What am I not seeing that I need to be seeing? And quite literally, I will ask myself just like, I'm asking you right now.
And I'm saying that question. And then in dream time, which is your superpower in dream time, I will ask my subconscious mind and what I call divine mind. I call it divine mind because your subconscious mind is literally divine mind. It's literally just, it spreads the cosmos and galaxies and universes it's consciousness. And if my analytical mind can't come up with the answer, which by the way, your analytical mind, which is brain based is also designed to give you the answer. But you have to ask the questions. And this is why the old phrase, you know, for many years ago, I want to sleep on it. Why you probably heard me say before that your subconscious mind is a problem-solving mechanism.
It's the job of your subconscious mind, which is processed through your brain to basically solve problems for you. So that's one aspect that is again what the neurological 3d aspect, but the other is when we're working with divine mind. Or subconscious mind and subconscious mind basically. And my knowing translates into divine mind. I will ask at night, the last thing before bed is I will say divine mind. I'm looking for I'm seeking. I want to create X, Y, Z, please show me, guide me. What questions should I be asking? How should I be asking? Who should I be asking? And I ask those questions of divine mind and let me concretize that for you, divine mind to me is cosmic consciousness.
And we're all part of that cosmic consciousness. But if you wanna concretize that maybe you want to call divine mind. God. Something more specific that you can metaphorically get your mind around and ask God, you know, even making that statement. So many people, when they hear the word, God, they're automatically polarized. They're thinking, yes, God. And they're putting their dogmatic interpretations upon what that word means, or they're polarized. And that they have dogmatic understandings about the word God, and they zone out. But whatever, however you choose. Ask divine mind. And that's the whole point of, of this episode is ask, I'm going to get this wrong. I know I will get this sequence wrong. Anyone who's listened for any amount of time knows that I don't endorse any religion. I'm a spiritualist, but the phrase and the Bible ask, and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find knock and the door shall be opened unto you. The first part asks and ye shall receive ponder that ask and ye shall receive. And many people won't ask, ask yourself, ask your analytical mind by talking to yourself. And then ask God, ask divine mind about showing you the answers or the guidance or the awareness or whatever it is that you think you need. And you know what, if you don't know what you need ask seriously, go there for ask, ask.
I have no clue what I'm looking for. Spirit divine. Mind. God. I have no clue what I'm looking for. What questions should I be asking? What question can I ask? That would give me more clarity. And then what a lot of us do is we get impatient rush and rush and rush. No, there are times I'm asking question and four days later I'm like, oh, okay. Yeah, I should be looking at this. Or I should be looking at that. I'm gonna segue off topic for a moment. Every single podcast episode for the most comes from dream time. And that in the morning, when I, you know, physically wake up neurologically brain based, wake up the biological body that I'm in, all these podcast ideas, one liners pop into my mind. And like this one here, the quality of your life is dependent upon the quality of questions you ask yourself. I've known that phrase 25 years, but I don't think I've ever done an episode on it before. I just make this podcast list of, of topics that I want to talk about, but I'm always asking, asking, Hey, what's a good topic this week's spirit, what's a good topic that I can share what can come through me, what, you know, and I'm always looking in my life and asking questions about, okay, how do I track different topics? And anyway, you get the point I'm always asking. And like the biblical phrase that I'd mention. Ask you have to ask. And when you ask the doors, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not in the couple of days, but the doors will open, and you will gain more clarity. And when you gain more clarity, then you can take action with clarity. Okay. Thanks for listening. And I'll catch you over on another episode. Bye.
