EPISODE 224: “Tame Your Brain And Go Beyond Your Limits”

June 29, 2022

In truth, you have no limits. You may have certain physical limitations, but I’ve seen people with what are perceived to be huge limitations do unbelievable things.

In this episode, I talk about how the concept of “go beyond your limits” was introduced to me. We are often told we have limits, but how often do you think, “OK, I might have current limitations, and let me go beyond those?

In shamanism, there is a quote that I love and it’s “When the warrior stops talking, even the craziest of tasks becomes possible.”

You may initially think that this episode is about self-talk, but it’s really not, it’s about quieting and taming your mind that drives your self-talk.

The reality is that the only reason you cannot go beyond your perceived limits is because you think you cannot, and in that moment is when your brain-based programming, subconscious programming, and mental chatter are stopping you.

We must stop the mental chatter, the “monkey brain.” But how?

You’ll never stop your brain and fully quiet your mind, however, you can tame them both, and that gives you a better opportunity to silence them as much as possible.

In this episode, I explore seven ways that I have used and learned over the years and I have practiced many of them for decades. I give you a lot of choice and variety as different things will work for different people. We all process information differently and have different abilities, likes, and preferences.

You’ll obviously know of at least three to five of them and then a few you may not have heard about or thought of. So, listen and then experiment with what works for you.

As I said above, the key to going beyond your limits is taming your mind and brain and honestly, there is no better time than now and you’ll find the applications endless: Better health, wellness, focus, peace of mind, joy, and maybe even doing things you have never done before.

Transformational Takeaway

To quiet the mind you first have to tame the mind! When you tame your mind you can start going beyond your limits.

E224

You're listening to the Transform your Life from the Inside Out podcast. This episode is titled Train Your Brain and Go Beyond Your Limits. What I mean by that is every limit you have is either brain-based conditioned or thought plain and simple. And the reason you don't go beyond your limits is because it's brain-based conditioning, which we'll talk about, or for the most part, it's the thinking and the talking to yourself that you've been doing. That have affected the brain-based conditioning. So, when you go beyond the brain-based conditioning and the thought, and you take your brain. You can then go beyond your limits. Keep listening.

Hi, I'm Jim Fortin, and you're about to start Transforming your Life from the Inside Out with this podcast. I'm widely considered the leader in Subconscious Transformation. And I've coached super achievers all around the world for over 25 years. Here, you're going to find no rah-rah motivation, and no hype. Because this podcast is a combination of Brain Science, Transformational Psychology, and Ancient Wisdom, all rolled into one to take your life to levels, you've never thought possible. If you're wanting a lot more in life, to feel better, to heal, to have peace of mind, to feel powerful and alive, and to bring more abundance and prosperity into your life. And this podcast is for you. Because you're going to start learning how to master your mind and evolve your consciousness. And when you do that, anything you want, then becomes possible for you. I'm glad you're here.

I remember many years ago. That when I wrote a book and it's not in print anymore. A lot of reasons for that. But when I wrote a book, something I, one of the titles I chaptered The Way Out Is the Way In. And what I mean by that is everything that you want in life. Is all inside of you. Uh, pretty much every answer you're looking for is inside of you. And Ruby said something like, I don't have the quote in front of me. But something like quieting the mind is where all the answers are. Now it didn't say it like that, but that's basically the gist of it. We have to quiet the mind. Now, working with a Shaman for many years. There's a phrase that I was told many years ago, and I love this phrase and it's something that I always keep, I try to keep in the forefront of my awareness. And that phrase is when the warrior stops talking. Even the craziest of task becomes possible.

What that means is there are so many things in your life that are not possible. Because of your self-talk. And you talk yourself out of things. It can be simple things. Have you noticed? That you can literally talk yourself out of going to the gym or talk yourself into going to the gym based upon the way you're feeling and how you talked to yourself about the way that you're feeling. We have to be careful with our words, because it's so easy to say, eh, I don't feel like going to the gym today and the now moment for most of us it snowballs. And then we plopped down on the couch and guess what? We never make it to the gym. But it all started. Well, there's, there's some myriad of different things here. But the place where you can make choice is your thinking, your internal dialogue. And that's why it's vital that we learn to manage our internal dialogue. A phrase that I use when I have a counterproductive thought. Am I learned this years ago? It's very, very basic. Is it's called a pattern interrupt, but I would simply say? Cancel and I imagined the rubber stamp, canceling the thought when you do that enough times. You'll start to train the brain to stop that self-talk.

I want to share a story here. Many years ago, and I know I've shared it in the podcast, but when I was traveling with my brother-in-law. The shaman, Don Xavier. It was a family vacation. And being a Shaman. I'm trying to be careful what I say here. Basically, he had me participating in some things that I were, that I was, let's just say, using my body with, he had me participating. In some things that would literally quiet my mind. And he said, here do this. I'm like, okay. And then he's like, here do this. And I'm like, okay. And then he's like, here do this again. And I'm like, okay. And the fourth time is like here. And I'm like, whoa. I'm done no more for me.

And I said, it's the fourth time. And he said, stop counting. And go beyond your limits. And in that moment, I recognized. That I was putting limits upon myself based upon my analytical counting. And then I would start thinking about my analytical counting, which would basically say no. And his whole objective literally was to get me to much higher levels of consciousness and this experience. So, when we stop counting, like I, did we stop thinking. We stop analyzing. Not until then, can we go beyond our limits? See, you can't go beyond your limits for the most part when you're thinking. Why. Because you're thinking keeps you in the limits.

And you have your limits because you think you have your limits and then your busy mind keeps you in your limits. Your mind and your brain. I recently had an interview with Bob Cafaro, and it was titled something like How to Cure an Incurable Disease. And in that interview, which I think is an extraordinary interview. He talks about how he healed himself and a very quick amount of time. With what is recognized medically as an incurable disease. Multiple sclerosis. And he really had it. When I say had it meaning he was experiencing the symptoms at a very significant level. And he healed himself and that's how I healed myself from a couple of years ago in 2020, I had both heart failure and a stroke in the same year as you probably know, and I healed myself.

By already knowing about and taming my inner mind. I didn't let my mind chatter about what the doctors said about what pass history had said about what research had said, what other people had said, what the media says about a stroke. And I know. I didn't let my chatter get into when in the hospital, the physical therapist came in and the doctors came in and then the neurologist came in and the cardiologist came in and then their assistants and the junior cardiologist and junior neurologist, and then nurses and everyone involved and the dietician. Saying you can't have this anymore? Well, that's nonsense because I eat that now. And I checked my blood pressure yesterday. And it was one 130 over 78. So don't tell me I can't have what I want in life. And generally, we can't have what we desire to create when we listen to other people.

But I was a poster child, metaphorically speaking for about a year for lifelong sickness. And I said to hell with that because I did not get into my chatter about, oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Ooh, this is not good. This doctor said that that doctor said that, that neurologist, no, I didn't go there and that's all enter, talk. That's all. Self-talk. That's all-brain chatter. That's all-mental chatter. As I'm sharing this my hope is that you've never experienced anything like what I have. But notice all the things that you chatter to yourself about. The jobs. The homes. The relationships, the cars, the kids. The family. In 2022, the economy. And the inflation and all this crap that people chatter about and that's where their attention is. And they keep their mind and brain there. And then they become paralyzed in terms of their ability to get things done or to move her to take action.

You know, in Shamanism, one of the first task of a Shaman. First responsibilities. Is to help his or her apprentices learn to quiet their mind. And my mentor, Don Xavier when I met his mentor, also a sorcerer and Nagual, and this is edge to my memory this was May of 1995. And he said to me, Verbatim you think too much and when you think too much you make yourself heavy. And when you make yourself heavy you cannot fly. So where in your life? Can you not fly? Because you think too much about things. So, what we have to do. As we have to learn to manage to tame our monkey mind and our brain. Because then when we can do that, we now have the clarity to choose. And you've heard me say before that we can't do anything without peace of mind.

Why because if you don't have peace of mind, the opposite of that what you have chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter, fear, chatter, fear. Chatter fear chatter fear chatter fear? And we're living in all this fear and all the chatter that's perpetuating the fear. And we can make a decision about anything. Should I move? Should I get a job as I was alluding to earlier? Whew. We have to quiet the mind. We have to tame the mind. So, what does a quiet mind? I think it's pretty obvious by now. It's a mind free of what I call the monkey chatter. I remember many years ago in Mexico sitting there don't have a year and we were in Palenque Mexico, doing ceremony at the tomb of Lord Pakal.

Jim Fortin: And in the jungle, which is where we were. In the evening, you could hear all these monkeys making all this noise. I mean, it was quite a commotion and these monkeys just up in the trees, just chattering. Chattering away and noise and noise. And he said for most people, that's how they live their lives like the monkey in the trees. And listening right now. We can't live our lives. That way we can't devolve we can't grow. We're not empowered when we live our lives with letting our mind and brain be like monkey or monkey and the trees. We have to tame. And that's what this episode is about.

Okay. Let me segue from the episode at hand for just a moment. And I want to talk about money. If you feel like you're trapped with money issues. I have an exclusive event coming up on July the 14th. It's free and you're going to want to be part of it on this online event. I'm going to share with you an ancient process that I've learned from the shaman that I work with Don Xavier. And I'm also going to be talking about your invisible money trap. And that is what has kept you stuck. Why? Because you can't change what you can't see. My goal is for you to start having your best money you're ever. The program is free in terms of monetary charge and all it's going to cost you is a few hours of time. Join me on this call and we are literally, and I do mean literally going to burn your old money stories. So, let's burn your past money stories and the way that we do that, your next step is go to jimfortin.com/letgo, and join me on the 14th. See you then back to the episode.

There are two places I can go here and I'm not because it would be a very long episode. But when I say quiet the mind. What is the mind? Science doesn't know they have no idea what the mind is. They can't locate the mind. If you ask a scientist, where's the mind. A scientist is going to say I'm dead. I don't know. We don't know where the mind is. And there are two minds. There is the individual mind. That is the mind of you, Bob, Susan, Steve, and Mary. And hey, this is me and this is my identity, and this is who I am. And this is where I grew up. And this is my identity in my mind about that. And then you have Divine Mind.

And your individual mind. Is the mind that chatters away? And talks about your life experiences and your past history and always living in the past and everything else. Your Divine Mind. Your Divine Mind is silence. Your divine mind is not blabbering away. I promise your Divine Mind doesn't speak at least in words. I mean, it doesn't know English or whatever language you speak. Your divine mind speaks in frequency. And we can't get into that in this episode. But I want to start the basic level. For many people is starting to tame the individual mind. And the brain because they, they, they bounce off from each other's so to speak. And they actually play off from each other and we have to start the neurological place.

And literally a psychological neurological place together, the mind and the brain. Okay. But anyway, I gave you the one about the Divine Mind, because it's wants you to recognize there's layers to this, but I want to make this simple in this episode. Many people listening. When I say a noisy mind or a busy mind. For me. For many people that is a racing mind. And their mind, they go to bed and their mind is racing, racing, racing, racing, racing. And it's racing all over the place bills and inflation and Biden and Trump and the election and the kids. And, you know, I call it my kid with beer and my sister did this and my brother did that. And I can't believe they did that. There's no way Susan, you know, these are the things that people let their racing brain. And then pull their mind into when they go to bed at night. But many people live their lives and this entire cycle of mental mind brain activity.

So, when I'm talking about quieting, the mind and brain. The brain is obviously neurological. And we train the brain neurologically through conditioning. Observation of life. And our thought processes and our conditioning of those thought processes. And then the mind. And we can start training our mind with various applications and train our brain, with various applications I want to share with you here. And., I want to point out. We'll never, never fully quiet the mind or the brain. It's impossible. What, you're not going to do it when you're on this planet. Let me tell you that. But what you can do is you can take your brain and your individual mind, and you can manage it. And that just takes a little bit of practice, which most of us have never learned. I don't know about you. But in first grade, all the way through 12.

I never learned anything about my brain, so to speak in terms of the neurology in terms of how I created in the world, how I think, how I process, how my value, none of that. I didn't learn any of that. And I certainly didn't learn until college about meditation. You know, I've mentioned this before in 1985. I don't even know where I saw the ad. Program's not around anymore. For a program called Relax in the Alphanetics and alpha basically is a brainwave state. And I bought the program. It was, uh, it was $11 a month. I paid on payments, and I think it was a payment in $11 a month. This was back, I think in 1985 or thereabouts. And I started learning because I was called to it emotionally.

I started learning to meditate so things I'm sharing with you is not because I just put a podcast together. I mean, I've been conditioning my life for three decades now. For a lot of years, and I have a lot of experience at this. And what I want to share with you. Some will work for some of you, a lot of work for all of you. Very little will work for a lot of you and then maybe a lot. Well, I don't know. We just, we all have different ways, our brains process and our thinking processes. And I want to give you some ideas here that you can explore on your own. I want to give you some ideas about things that may help you. Can help you we'll help you. Whichever combination of things that you take and you, you explore, they can help you train your mind and your brain. And they're not training your mind or brain to do anything other than, you know, what. Exhaling. Chilling the F out. Chilling the mind and the brain. Number one. I think everyone's heard of this one. Meditation.

And, you know, I don't even need to go into that. You can get online, just Google. You know, meditation methods and there's everything from A to Z. Everything from technology, helping you to ancient practices like candle gazing or breathing. Can assist you in your meditation. As I've said before, breathing also actually slow, slows down your brain waves, not an opinion. That's scientific fact. You want to sit on your brain activity? Learn to properly breathe. I'm not even going to go there because there are tons of applications. When I say applications, I mean things to do, but also apps online that can teach you breathing processes. And that's one of the ways to stay healthy. And that's something that I've worked on a lot the last couple of years is breathing.

Another one, which I've done before and I firmly endorsed it Mindfulness Training. Basically, this has kind of sprouted up to the last couple of years and more than anything, Mindfulness Training is exactly that becoming mindful. And then we moved to a place like the Buddha talked about. Observing our thinking, because when we can observe our thinking. And this associate it doesn't control us. It doesn't manage us. And it's not that runaway train or the monkey in the trees. Another one. I've done this for a lot of years, and I've used this myself for a lot of years. Call it, whatever you want, hypnosis or self-hypnosis both private sessions with Hypnotist and audios. And you can find again tons of audios online, MP3 downloads online all over the place. Just get online. And Google or being or whatever you do. I would look for a search for Hypnosis Meditation and see what comes up. Next one, number four Binaural Beats. You can get this free, go to YouTube and you will find a bazillion audios that are binaural beats. Basically, binaural beats are. It's tones and frequencies and the speed of those and your ears, but it's two different beats in each ear or two different beats in each ear. And what the brain does, the brain takes those two beats, one in one ear and one in the other matches them up. And basically, creates a synchronization and then that, then those beats start slowing down and they bring you down.

And the reason why is because we physiologically and train with things. What that means is we physiologically biologically get in tune and sync with energy around us case in point. Many years ago. Let me ask you this. How many have you been in the restaurant? And you're sitting here having dinner with someone. And it's kind of a peppy place. And you notice that you're tapping your foot, but you don't notice you're tapping your foot until you notice you're tapping your foot. That's happening unconsciously. Your subconscious mind is getting that because your subconscious mind hasn’t trained with the beats and the music.

Now where I was going a couple of minutes ago. Many years ago, about 30 something years ago after I quit my corporate job out of college. I was waiting tables at Dave and Busters. And I was working late one night. And I noticed the music shifted from real upbeat and peppy music down to slower music at 1:00 AM. We closed at 2:00 AM. And I asked the DJ, I'm like, how come the music changed an hour ago? And he goes, because we all want to go the hell home. That's why. And I'm like what? And he said, slower music slows people down. They start yawning. They recognize it's late and they start thinking, whoa, it’s time to go home. Because see if we played the more, you know, upbeat upscale, loud music that would keep people's, you know, physiology, and trained with that. And then they would stay here longer. So, we got to close the place down at 2:00 AM. So, we start doing it psychologically. So, the binaural beats, what they do is they actually and train your body. Your body gets in sync. And they slow you down.

I also, when it comes to beats and hypnosis, I look for isochronic tones and I use those a lot. You may search and see what you can find for yourself. isochronic I S O- chronic tones. And see if something resonates with you. Next. Technology and meditation. I actually prefer the ancient ways that I've learned. I used music. And I'll talk about some other things in just a moment that I use. I prefer the ancient ways that I learned many years ago before I knew this stuff existed. But if you go to Google and you type in technology meditation, or being, and I just say Google, because I'm in the habit of going to Google. But if you go search technology meditation, you'll find tons of things that will come up. And of all these things that I'm giving you what I simply request. Do not do something because you think, Ooh, that's cool or Jim said that or whatever. Pick something because it resonates with you. And because it resonates with you. You're going to be more likely to do it. Alrighty, a couple more ways. Number one same thing. It's akin to binaural beats. And that's why, for example, the Mozart effect is effective. From what I understand. But as musical instruments. And over the years, I've used a hand pan. Which is a metal drum. I've used a flute. And I've used Tibetan Bowls.

All of these things help me center and get quiet and get still. So, these are all ancient tools and those may work for you as well. I want to say that it's very easy for me. To literally go Kaplock right off the end of the earth. When I quiet my mind. I've practiced the practices for so long. It's easy for me just to sit and let go and just chill. And get quiet. A lot of people have a hard time with that. And these applications that I'm sharing with you, there's something in here that will work for you. But I want to share one. That I found last year and its really kind of cool. And candidly, it helped me a little bit, not a lot because of my years of training. But I think it will help a lot of people a whole lot. There's this concept called Heart Math. Search for it online. And I'm going to put a link. In the show notes. They have it’s a device. That has a sensor on it that goes on your ear lobe. And what the sensor does, is it measures your heart coherence. And if you're all mentally engaged and everything else. Your heart coherence, which is physiological is going to be out of whack or it's going to be erratic, or it's going to be moving very fast. And when you put this sensor on your ear lobe, it's pretty crazy, accurate. When you put the sensor on your ear lobe. That sensor will have one of three colors that will flash on a circle. It will be Red. Blue. Or Green. And your goal is to keep yourself in the green zone. And what I know by playing with this device and I have one.

When you're in the green zone. You gotta be quiet inside. You can't be sitting here chattering, oh, I'm doing this exercise, but you know what? I've got my bills to pay. And I've got a call at 2:00 PM today and I have to pick up the kids at 4:30. No, because what will happen is the lights will change. On the. It's on your phone, the lights will change indicating the blue that you know what? Hey. Chill out. You're starting to get a little active. And I guarantee you, I can't guarantee you, but my experience and I've observed, and I think this is true. Is, if you start thinking angry thoughts. Guess what the lights will turn the red.

All from your ear lobe, and this is picking up electromagnetic frequencies in your body. Basically, neural signals are what it is. And it's reading these things and interpreting them through your application. And you can learn through this app. You can learn. To keep your thinking, which is pretty darn near quiet and definitely tamed in the green zone in the green circle. Because when you're in the green circle, Like I said, there's not a whole lot of activity going on and a whole lot of thinking. And then your goal, your objective is to do this every single day. For anywhere from seven minutes to 15 minutes, thereabouts to get started. And start conditioning your mind to slow down. Conditioning your mind to relax. And you'll find that after you've done this for a little while, it becomes very easy for you to do what I can do. And what I said is Kaplock off the end of the earth.

And you'll find that a lot easier to relax and to let go. Now you're taming your mind when you take your mind, which is your first step in your brain. Your next step is quieting and that's a whole different episode, maybe the same, but a lot different. And it just requires more dedication, more work and more awareness. But for now, let's start actually relaxing your brain and your over-analytical mind and you’re thinking. Because I'm going to share with you. And a lot of people that are listening have probably experienced it. When you start taming the brain. Not the brained, but the brain, when you start taming the brain. You start experiencing a whole lot of peace. And when you feel, you know, you experienced a whole lot of peace. You start feeling better physically mentally and emotionally. So, your takeaway this week is to quiet your mind. First, you've got to tame your mind and your brain. And when you take your mind and your brain. That's when you effectively get out of your head. And that's when you can start going beyond your limits. Thanks for listening and I'll catch you over on another episode. Bye-bye.
