EPISODE 247: “Is Your Body Controlling You?”
December 7, 2022
I know you’ve probably heard the phrase, “You’re not a human being having a spiritual experience, you’re a spiritual being having a human experience.”
Even though this makes perfect sense to most people, they don’t really deep dive into it and explore the deeper meaning of it.
Let’s approach this from the position of Duality of Being. You’re a dual being, both mind, and body, yet most of us live from only body and just casually think about mind and spirit.
This being stated, the big question in this episode is – Is Your Body Controlling You? And, the big question is, “What is you?” Are you your body or your mind, or better asked, which part of you is the ‘bigger” part of you?
The bigger part of you is your mind, yet we often let our body control us, and we give all our power to our body.
Let me give you a metaphor…your pinkie. Does your mind control your body, and your body control your pinkie, or does your pinkie finger control the totality of you?
Let’s be scientific, your brain makes 95% of your decisions but are the decisions made by “you” or your brain? And, you are not your brain.
Let me give you another metaphor. When you go on vacation and rent a car. After you do your travels you return your car and go home and the same with you. Your body is your car, and you are driving it, it is not driving you, yet most people make the totality of their life their body. When they do this they are living from the smallest part of who they are.
So, back to your brain. Your brain is full of chemicals and these chemicals influence your hormones, your moods, and just about all aspects of your body, but, and here is where most people lose track of the bigger picture. You are not your body, you are first a mind.
In this episode, I dig deeper into this concept and how you can start working from the higher part of yourself and not the lower part of you, which is your body.
Transformational Takeaway
You are not your body. Do not let your body control you.

You're listening to the Transform your Life from the Inside Out podcast. This episode is titled Is Your Body Controlling You? What does that mean is your body controlling you. You know, we think that we are our body. But you know what? We're also mind. We're also divine mind and what we do normally as human beings, we make our mind and body one entity and they're not. They do work together, but they're also independent aspects of our being. And what I want to share is that you cannot operate without your mind. But you can operate because you do without your body. So, the question that I have for you in this episode is, is your body controlling you. Keep listening.
Hi, I'm Jim Fortin, and you're about to start Transforming your Life from the Inside Out with this podcast. I'm widely considered the leader in Subconscious Transformation. And I've coached super achievers all around the world for over 25 years. Here, you're going to find no rah- rah motivation, and no hype. Because this podcast is a combination of Brain Science, Transformational Psychology, and Ancient Wisdom, all rolled into one to take your life to levels, you've never thought possible. If you're wanting a lot more in life, to feel better, to heal, to have peace of mind, to feel powerful and alive, and to bring more abundance and prosperity into your life and this podcast is for you. Because you're going to start learning how to master your mind and evolve your consciousness. And when you do that, anything you want, then becomes possible for you. I'm glad you're here.
Okay so is your body controlling you? You know, when you think about that, how do you think about that? What are you thinking? I learned after having a stroke and then obviously working with a Shaman for decades. He's always talked to me about divine mind, working from mind. And when I had the stroke, I learned through experience that mind and body are two very separate things. I'll talk about that a little bit later in this episode. But something happened a couple of nights ago. He and I were talking and that inspired today's episode. And I want to share with you, and just a bit what we were talking about. But again, the subject matter is your body controlling? You.
Now, if you've listened for any amount of time. First, I want to say that you probably are to some degree, if not a large degree. Spiritually minded. So, you probably believe in energy doesn't matter if you believe in or not. I mean, that's what we are. We're energy beings. That's science. But you probably subscribe to the fact that we are energetic, infinite beings. So that question, being that being said, you know, you're an infinite, energetic being. Does your body control you, which is infinite energy. I remember back in 1992, a friend introduced me to Wayne Dyer and Wayne Dyer's content. And I was out in the event where Wayne Dyer was speaking. And he said something to me that just resonated. He said, you're not your body. And he also said, which I thought, well, that's okay. Yeah, I get it. But you know, what does that mean? I am not my body.
I mean, I, Jim, I'm sitting here listening to you Wayne Dyer. And you're saying that I am not listening to you because I, as I'm identifying through my body, I'm not my body. Anyway, he went on to say something that, you know, I'm probably, I'm relatively, relatively sure you've heard before. But the phrase is this. You're not a human being, having a spiritual experience. You are a spiritual being, having a human experience. I often tell people, you know, many, many of us are most people on the planet. I think they're human beings. And then a smaller group of the population, which probably applies to you think that at least analytically, that you're a spiritual being.
What you might've heard me say before is that you are a cosmic being, because even calling yourself a spiritual being. Literally lends, some amount of dogmatism to it. And you're an infinite energetic being. So even though when we think about that, you're not a human being, having a spiritual experience, you're a spiritual being, having a human experience. Even when we think about that, it really does. You know, it does make sense. But what I want to do in this episode is I want to actually dive deeper and explore this even deeper and potentially the meaning of it for you.
So, what does it mean? What does it mean? That you are an infinite, energetic being. And what does it mean, at least in your interpretation? When I talk about is your body controlling you. Because obviously what I'm referring to is you are the infinite, energetic being. But your body, is it, or is it not controlling you because you're not your body. Is your body controlling you, which is the totality of you. The purpose of this episode is not to give you the answers because honestly, I don't have the answers. I have a good handle on, you know, a good handle on it, I think. But I don't know the answer, but what I want to do in this episode is I want to get you to start thinking. And I want you to start actually observing life from a much higher level than observing life from the physical aspect of you. Which again is the smallest part of you.
When we talk about the body. You know, I have to be, I don't know what the word is. I guess, realistic here. Is that science proves that your brain and your body drive most aspects of your behaviors. Your brain drives your habits, your desires and your addictions. But what most of us don't explore is what is the role of our mind? What's the role that your mind plays in the activities of your physical body? Because, as I said a bit ago, they're not the same thing. Because your body cannot operate without your mind, but your mind can operate, and it does without your body.
So, the example that I talk about here about your body. And the physical body and the brain. You know, alcoholism for an example. People have physical cravings and these physical cravings, actually, we say, well, I don't know what most people say. I don't know what they think. I'm not in their head, but I think a lot of people think. I want a drink. I crave a drink. But the question is what's craving the drink, the body or the mind. Not the divine mind, but the thinking mind, which has been confined to the physical body. And the physical body experience of reality.
Usually what happens is most of us, aren't thinking in the kind of way that I'm sharing with you now. And then what happens is because the body kicks in the lower part of us, the body kicks in and gives people the physical cravings and sensations. To have that cigarette or to have that glass of wine or whatever it is and what happens again. Or as I'm trying to demonstrate here, I'm attempting to demonstrate is that. Even though you are divine mind because you're an infinite, energetic being. Your body is controlling that.
This episode, actually each and every week, I think about, okay, what do I want to talk about this week? And this episode was actually inspired by a conversation that I had with Don Xavier. My brother-in-law the Shaman a couple of nights ago. Often, he and I will chat via text late at night. And it can be any, it can be about anything, the economy or cars or Thanksgiving, or spiritual matter what. There are many different things we chat about. And we were talking about something and what he said to me is this. And by the way, this is not the first time I've heard this or something like it, but it just ring. It rang for me in a different way when he said it. And he said to me, quote, don't let the body control your being. Those are his exact words. Don't let the body control your being. I'll get to in just a moment. What he did not say is don't let your body control your being. He said, don't let the body control your being.
Okay. I'll come back to that in just a moment. I told a story that he shared with me many years ago. It's a metaphor. I told it here on the podcast, but the metaphor of a rental car. You know when you go on vacation. You may have a rental car and you let's say you'll fly to Seattle as an example, providing you don't live in Seattle. But let's say you fly to Seattle, and you get to the airport. You go to the rental car counter; you get your rental car. And then you drive around for however long you're in Seattle, 2, 3, 4, 5 days a week, whatever. Then your vacation is over. What you do is you take your rental car back to the rental car agency. You drop your car off, you leave the rental car. You actually hop on your airplane, and you fly home. The metaphor is this. That's your body and your mind. And that your body is the rental car. It's your mind that metaphorically goes home and the same thing, the physical body, when we leave this body, when we do what most people call dying, transitioning, whatever it is. We're leaving the vehicle, but you know what your mind goes somewhere.
Okay, this is a harder episode to kind of convey to you guys, because I had to think through this a lot about how I want to convey this in a way that will make sense to everyone, but with that metaphor that I just gave you a, hopefully that's making sense. Because that part of you that leaves the body. That infinite part of you, that divine part of you. That is, you are not the body, but most of us identify as the body and the body is us. Or at least that's what we think. I am the body. I am Jim. No, that is Jim's body. So back to the comment he made. Don't let the body control your being. What he did not say, which I'd mentioned just a couple of minutes ago. Don't let your body control your being. He said, don't let the body control your being. So, what many of us do is we personalize? We personalize the body and make the body us. We make the body who we are, but it's not who we are.
It's simply the vessel that houses, the who, the being of what we are. And even when he said it in that way, because it caught my attention. And it's not your body. It's the body. And when you think about that for a moment, when you're thinking about your body, it's very easy to associate to that. But when you're thinking about the body, it's not as easy to associate to the body because you're not associating that as your body. The other part of what he said was the quote, the body holds the being. The body holds the being for the divine force to be do not let the body control. The divine force. And that, I mean, if we look at our lives, that's what we do. Think about that for a moment.
Because see your body holds your being. Your being is the consciousness of you, the infinite, you, the spiritual you, the divine, you. Even listening now, your body is holding the being listening now. And it's both your mind and your brain processing the hearing because without recognizing it, you're listening to this episode, dualistically, you're listening to it through your body. And with the body. And you're listening to it with your mind which actually expands beyond your body. You know, another example that he gave me years ago and I've used here in the podcast is the pinky metaphor. Do you let your pinky control the rest of your body? The obvious answer is no, you don't let your little pinky finger control the rest of your body. But spiritually, that's what many or most of us do. Is we let the body, which is the metaphor for the pinky. We let the body control the bigger part of us, the beingness of us. The divineness of us, the consciousness of us. We let the body. Control the divinity of us. We often let, if not, almost always let the body control the infinite and divineness of our beingness.
And candidly speaking. That's not the way we're supposed to be doing it. We are mind and body, but most of us choose or only know in fairness to people, but we're not taught this. We know only to live from the body because we identify with the body and associate the body to our being and that's, it just doesn't work that way. We're not the body. So, where do you live from? Think about that? Where do you live from? Do you live from the body? Do you live from the mind or both thinking that you're living from mind, but you're actually living from your body. You know, when I had a stroke that actually created a lot of questions in me. And I know that when I had the stroke, my body was not functioning properly, but I know that I went air quote. I know that I went somewhere. It was almost as if I was in this just nowhere in this. And that was the kin, you know, I don't know, I didn't look at the medical records, but my brother-in-law's set afterwards. Don Xavier, the Shaman.
He said you are an experience, meaning you left the body even momentarily. You left the body, and you experienced the other side. And I knew that at some level and the way that I knew it is when I woke up in the hospital. A couple of days later, I think two days later I was in ICU for two days or so I woke up. And there were some doctors around me when I woke up or just shortly after. And they said you had a stroke. And I said, I know I had a stroke. Now I don't know if I picked it up subconsciously. And, and hearing things because your subconscious mind never sleeps in your subconscious mind is divine mind. I don't know if I picked it up subconsciously. Or I just woke up and I knew, but I knew not because of the body. I knew because of my mind. And I think a lot of people are familiar with this there's even programs now on Netflix and different places. About people. They may be in you know, having an operation.
And they actually, I don't like this word, but I'm going to use it. They die on the operating table. And there's been accounts of people being able to convey what was going on in the, in the operating room. But yet they were dead. They literally have accounts of lifting out of their body and then watching what's going on in the operating room. Well, that's divine mind because see the body is dead again, you're not your body. But divine mind doesn't die. And as I was saying, just a couple of minutes ago, When I had the stroke, the question became even more prevalent for me because I knew that I was somewhere, but I also knew my body was not functioning in terms of having biological consciousness. And I asked him about it. I it's one of the most, I think, profound questions I've asked him in a lot of years because I don't ask a lot of questions anymore.
But. He talked about how being a Shaman. He works from divine mind and not the body. And he said something along the lines of how do you think I travel astral? How do you think I remote view, how do you think I moved between dimensions and unified fields and talk to other beings, not on this planet. I don't do it with my body, which is Xavier. I do it with my mind, not through the body. So, a couple of nights ago when he said, you know, do not let the body control you. I started thinking about what ways do I let my body control me that I still don't know? Or I'm still not aware that I'm letting my body control me. And that's why I'm doing this episode for you. I know it's a complex subject. I mean, how the hell do you get the ball across home plate? You know, get it over home plate. I mean, how do you explain this?
But my objective. Is to request that you explore deeper. And I'll talk about that a lot, you know, in a couple of minutes. But explore the duality of you're not your body. You are the mind that the body is processing. And I also want to point out at the level of like shamanism and sorcery. At that level. The shaman doesn't even identify with the body. Because it's very easy to start thinking analytically through 3D analytical thinking, oh, okay. I'm a mind and I'm a body. Okay. Let me think of them separately. Even if you start doing that, I think that's going to be a win for you. But he was even talking about working at much higher levels than that. In terms of consciousness to be able to, to practice as sorcery. I don't think practice is the right word, but that's what we call it. Practicing his sorcery. So, before I keep going here, I do have a favor to ask, please. The fact that you're listening to the podcast means that you're finding some value here. I would ask please that you returned some value if you would. And by that, if you would, please share this podcast with people that, you know. You know, people that would appreciate the content. Because my objective, my Dharma, my mission is to help more people wake up on the planet.
And I can do that by helping people. You know, evolve, explore and expand. Their understanding of things we're talking about in these episodes. So, if you'd please share, I'd be very grateful. As well please go. If you're listening on iTunes, please go leave a review and I'm requesting, please leave a five-star review, you know, one- or two-star reviews, not going to help anyone whatsoever. So, if you do that, I'd be very, very grateful. Okay. So how do you think you'd live differently? If you could consciously separate from your body and live from divine mind? And have the body. As your tool as opposed to how you're living now, which means most people have their body as their primary identity. And as I've said, three or four times now, That's not, you.
Most of us live as the body. Is the apparatus, the machine, the mechanism that's driving us. And what a large portion of the planet does is they ignore divine mind. They ignore that part. And I think where most people typically think from is they think they're a body that houses a mind, and they think only through the confines of what the physical body can experience. And that's really, I'm not going to get into it in this episode. That's really not engaging with divine mind. That's actually working through brain. There's a difference between thought and thinking.
Thinking is I think I will turn left here. I think I will have a ham sandwich. I think I will watch TV. But thought is what come and that comes from brain that's habitual, that's neurological biological, but thought is what comes through divine mind. And that is consciousness. So, most of us live as I've observed. We live as the body is driving us. We ignore divine mind, higher consciousness. And we only even try to understand divine consciousness through the mechanism of the body. And when I say through the body, I mean the mechanisms and mechanics of the body. Specifically thinking habits and emotions. Because then we look at behavior and we think that we are our behavior because it's associated to us. But you know what? You're not your behavior. Your body is the behavior. You are the consciousness coming through the body to create the behavior.
So, what happens is we have, because it's biological, neurological, we have the emotions and all these kinds of brain, brain driven things, dopamine, and. And the brain chemicals and everything else. Which drive the behavior, these things drive emotion, which drives the behavior. But again, it's the consciousness we have to look at. Whew. Okay. Hopefully I explained that well enough. I mean, I think I have way confused myself, even sharing that with you. As I'd mentioned, please, a little latitude here. This is not an easy concept, at least for me to get across to you guys. And I'm doing the best that I can. So, a question for you or questions. Do you think your soul has habits? Do you think your soul gets angry? Do you think your soul. Gets into fear. Do you think your soul gets into jealousy? Do you think your soul gets into judgment? Do you think your soul gets into doing things so that other people will like you meaning your body? And do you think your soul. Gets into shame.
Everything that I just shared right here. These are all emotions, and the emotions are processed through the brain, through the body, but they're observed by the mind. But again, you're not the body that's processing these things. Your divine mind that the body is also processing until you know how to work outside of the body. As if you'd already left the body, kick the bucket, left the planet, whatever you want to call it. I would say only then can we truly, truly function as divine mind? Because I don't know about you. I'm not there yet. I'm still working on it, but that's the level I want to at least encourage you to start thinking at. So, when you get into all those things that I talked about, the emotions, the fear, the judgment, the shame, and even the habits and the anger and all these kinds of things. When you're getting into all of that, you are being controlled by your body because you're living through your body as opposed to living, you know, from divine mind. Because when I said your soul that's divine mind. And your soul is not getting into anger and fear and judgment and greed and jealousy and pleasing others. And shame and all these kinds of things. So, if you're getting into that, yes, indeed. You're being controlled by your body.
So honestly, I have no idea how successful I'm going to be in this episode. You know, getting this across to you. But as I just said more than anything else, my objective is to attempt to get you to start thinking. Not as an associated mind body, even though you appear to be that. And they work together. But your mind can exist, exist, and it does apart from the body, but the body cannot exist without the mind. Because again, the body is, the body would be, for example, like a radio a radio, doesn't create the programming. The programming is frequency that comes through the radio, but the radio, the computer you're listening or the device you’re listening on right now is a mechanism. That's a good metaphor for your brain. Your brain and your body are a mechanism for the frequency of the consciousness coming through the mechanism. So, where are you living from? Are you living as the radio? Or the programming coming through the radio.
So, your transformational take away. Are all these negative emotions that I just mentioned. These are all things that are actually carried out through the body. And if you're living in all these kinds of emotions, then you're definitely letting your body control you. And what we want to do. I want to do. Is, we want to free ourselves from this. I know where your mind, your analytical mind is going next, your analytical mind is going to okay, Jim, I liked this, but how. I don't know that I'm qualified to answer that, but I'll say that's your homework. And I would say sit with it. At episode number six on quieting the mind. I would say, sit with it. Meditate with it. Get silent. And you know what I do, I firmly think believe postulate it's my highest superpower is I toss things to dream time because in dream time, your pure unfettered consciousness, in terms of talking about mind, So I tossed. I tossed things to dream time. And I do a lot of deeper, deeper exploration and dream time. And this can be a way that you can explore what I'm sharing with you in this episode at a much deeper level that pertains to you. So, another takeaway, something that I do every night and Don Xavier taught me this. Every night. When I go to bed. What I'm about to drift off to sleep. I speak what I'm about to share with you next. And I set my intention. And my intention is that I connect with divine mind. For further evolution of my being, but what I say is this. I say verbatim, divine mind. Take me. Show me. Lead me. And guide me. To higher evolution. Thanks for listening. And I'll catch you over on another episode. Bye-bye.
