EPISODE 291: “Why Your Brain Stops You From Taking Action And Creating A Better Life”
October 11, 2023
In this enlightening episode, I discuss why our brains often sabotage us from taking action and making positive changes in our lives. We'll explore insights into the psychological barriers that hold us back and practical tips for breaking through these mental blocks.
While we may consciously want to improve our lives, our subconscious minds and ingrained habits resist change. This is due to the older, survival-based part of our brains.
To create change, we must operate in alignment with how our brains are wired – by transforming our subconscious beliefs.
Progress requires action. But action often involves discomfort, fear, and anxiety.
We must push through these feelings to get unstuck. Staying in our comfort zone leads to stagnation.
Decide on a new path, and don't worry about if the actions are messy. Perfect action often never happens.
We must trust ourselves to follow through, not just trust external advice. Focus on trusting your ability to course correct, not on the outcome. Do your due diligence, then take action. You can't over-learn everything.
What is holding you back from creating the life you want? Is it truly a lack of time, money, or skill – or is it the protective mechanisms of your own mind?
Transformational Takeaway
Ponder the possibility that your subconscious beliefs and ingrained habits are resisting the very change you consciously seek – then ask yourself, what small action can you take today to push past your comfort zone and into progress?

And its really good information that can help us, but in the end, we don't take action. We don't do the things we know we need to do to create the outcomes that we want. And then many times what we do is we blame ourselves and we personalize it and make it about ourselves, which compounds the problem even more. Well, what I want to share with you is it's not your fault. It's part of your brain and your subconscious identity. And that's what we're going to talk about in this episode, how your brain and your subconscious identity sabotage you. Keep listening.

Before we get started with this episode, remember the Be Do Have series is now live. If you're one of those people that thinks, oh my gosh, I'm too late, I'm behind. No, you're not. There's still plenty of time to join and to catch up on all the training. I'll tell you more about it in just a couple of minutes, but for now, this is a huge opportunity waiting for you. And this opportunity has taken over 250,000 people beyond the podcast. I'll tell you more about it in just a minute. For now, let's get started with this week's episode.
Okay. So, in this episode, I want to talk about how your brain actually. You know, despite the fact that you think you want to create X, Y, Z in life. Your brain is part of the brain, not all of your brain, because it's part of your brain thinking you want to create a better life. There's a part of your brain, the older part of your brain. That's survival based. That no matter what you think you want, which is left brain analytical prefrontal cortex thought process, the executive part of the brain. There was an older part of the brain that just actually resisted change. We'll talk about why that happens in just a moment. For now, I want to share some truths with you about why you're stuck and then things that you've got to do. So, number one is I know, you've heard the phrase before that many of us have heard for a lifetime. If nothing changes, nothing changes. Now think about that. We think on our own lives, well, if nothing changes, meaning if I don't change and nothing changes, but we generally say if nothing changes, nothing changes. How about let's personalize that. And that is if I don't change nothing changes. See you listening to the podcast or any other podcast or YouTube video, it doesn't mean you're going to change. It means you're listening to content or training or watching videos or whatever it is about change. That's not going to create the life that you want. Information, you know, in and of itself is of zero value. What matters is that you take action on that information, which I'll talk about in just a moment. So, you can listen all day long. And by the way, this podcast has millions of downloads. I do greatly grill you're appreciated. I love what I do, and it's an honor to serve and I'm very blessed. So, thank you again. However, it’s of no value to you unless you decide to execute on what you're learning here and the opportunities that present themselves to change your life. Otherwise, plain and simple. It's good information but ain't no change gonna happen as they say, sometimes it's just not going to happen for you. Next it really doesn't matter what you think you want. It matters to some degree, but not to a large degree as you're about to discover. So many of us think that, you know, will think I want X, Y, Z. I want a new home. I want a new car. I want blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And we said goals for it. But see what really matters and what actually supersedes that is that your brain and your subconscious identity well overrule and dominate anything and everything that you think you consciously want.
Meaning that, and I'll demonstrate in the bit we're driven by our brain and your brain literally makes your decisions for you, even if you don't know that your brain is making decisions for you. So, all day long, you might be thinking, okay, I want a better life. And I want to create A, B, C, D E F G. And you're all gung-ho, initially in your behavior and yet think about doing it. And then, you know, three months, six months, nine months a year later, you'll look back and you're not farther along. That is your brain sabotaging what you think and what you thought you want and your subconscious identity doing the very same thing. A couple of takeaways for you here on this particular bullet. Number one. You cannot outperform your subconscious identity and your habits. I'll say it again you cannot outperform your subconscious identity and your habits brain-based habits. I'll say it again. You cannot outperform your subconscious identity and your brain-based habits.
And what that means is however you see yourself at a subconscious level, and however you identify at a subconscious level, that's all subconscious and that drives your analytical thinking. Meaning the prefrontal cortex thinking it actually overrides the I'm sorry. Doesn't drive it overrides the prefrontal cortex thinking. So you can think all day long, which I've talked about. I want a new, new home, new car, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. That's prefrontal cortex, but at a subconscious level, you can have feelings and beliefs of I'm not worth that. I can't do that. I can achieve that. And as long as you have that at the subconscious level, no matter what you consciously want, it's not going to happen. Same thing with your habits. Your habits are actually brain based mechanisms. Your habits and I've said this before. I won't go into it here. But there's a part of your brain that believes your habits are needed for survival. So, habits are a survival mechanism, so it's hard for the brain to change habits. This is the older part of the brain. Why? Because that part of the brain is responsible for your survival. And if you change your habits, which we'll talk about today in this episode, but if you try to change your habits, there's a part of the brain that's going to rebel to prevent you from changing your habits.
Why? Because that part of the brain operates from your habits are here to help you survive. So, you can never outperform your subconscious identity and your habits until your subconscious identity changes. And you change your habits and they both are interwoven as well. Nothing's going to change for you and your life. And if it does that'll change temporarily and very quickly, you'll find yourself right back in your old situations again. I know this sounds kind of dismal, but you know what? It doesn't matter because when you have the tools. You can actually override this part of the identity and this part of your brain. And that's what we teach here, but you've got to take action on it, which again, I'll talk about that in just a little bit.
Next there's a part of your brain that does not like change. It's the older reptilian part of the brain and certain mechanisms in that, in that particular part of the brain. I'll talk about that in just a minute. We'll dive deeper into that. And then finally, actually two more. Here's a big one and I know you'd know it. But do you really know it? And this applies whether you're making 40,000 a year or 5 million a year, because I've seen it apply and influence both levels. Meaning people that are making 40 grand a year, they might not have as much flexibility and opportunity as somebody making, let's say 5 million a year. But I've watched what I'm going to share with you affect people that are making 5 million a year. Which is what keeps them from 10 million a year.
The reason you're listening to this podcast is because you want something different in your life. That's a fact, however, the way that we generally never see it is to create more in life and a better quality of life. That requires progress. Now based upon everything that I just explained, we get trapped. We don't do things. Therefore, we don't make progress. Not even recognizing we're not making progress. And we just simply stay in our old places. So, the truth. I want to share another bullet point is that any time we want to change in life, we go through fear and anxiety. That's part of the brain Cron to stop us from changing, which is the whole point of this episode. And that moment. The only way to stop the fear and anxiety is to go through the fear and anxiety. If we don't go through fear and anxiety, which we call our comfort zone, we will never go through fear and anxiety. And if we don't go through fear and anxiety, we will never go through it. Therefore, we will never leave our comfort zone. Therefore, we will always stay in our comfort zone. Therefore, nothing changes, hence nothing changes.
So, a couple of things to consider here is you got to pick a path. You've got to pick a new direction and then you've got to take action in that new direction. Even messy action. And there's a whole caveat here because if you're a perfectionist, then you might not take action because you cannot be perfect. The reality is you must move. You must do something. So, we're talking about the brain. We're talking about subconscious mind questions, questions, questions. Do you know what drives your fears subconsciously. Ponder that. Think about that. What drives my fears subconsciously. Analytically we know what our fears are. I'm afraid, for example, I mean, I'm not, but I'm giving this example to you guys. I mean, obviously this is not true for me, but I was going to say, as an example, I'm afraid to talk in front of people while I'm not because I'm doing it right now and I've done it for 30 years in terms of big audiences, et cetera, et cetera. But many times, we get into these fears. That I'm afraid to talk in front of people or I'm afraid to put video out, or I don't want to do this, or I don't want to do that, or I don't want to do ABC and I want to do it because I know it'll build my business. I know it'll give me a better quality of life, but I am afraid to do it. Well, that's all subconsciously driven because it's not consciously decided to not moment because that fear came from some point in your past.
So, we drove all day long. By the subconscious mind and brain-based habits. And if you go back to the earlier episodes, the first 10 episodes, I will talk about this a whole lot more in those episodes. By the way, if you're new to the podcast, go all the way back to the beginning. Many of us and research has demonstrated. We like things that we think are new. We disregard things that we think are old. The first episodes that I created five and a half years ago are a, they are as applicable to your life now. As they were when I created them five years ago, why is it all psychology and it hasn't changed in five years. And if you're not going back to the earlier episodes, when you do go back to them and you start listening, you're going to realize how much you have missed by not going back to the earlier episodes. So back to fear is when we have this fear, which comes subconsciously, and the fear keeps us in our comfort zone from taking action. Then we get into exactly what I'm talking about here. And decision, we get an end decision, which means lack of action. We get into lacks, lack of action, which means lack of progress. Lack of progress means homeostasis. What does it mean? If nothing changes nothing changes.
Next one. Next big bullet point. And again, I'll dig in all these a little more, as we gather for the episode. I've seen this a bazillion times in my training program is a transformational coaching program. And we're about to actually offer it again. We'll have somewhere between 20, you know, 20, 25,000 people registered by next week. I don't know when you're listening to this, but I'm talking about, you know, later in the year of the fall of 2023. And we'll have all these people. Tens of thousands of people were registered and something like a quarter of a million people have already been through the program. And many, many, many, many, many tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, actually it's hundreds of thousands of people will say, you know what, Jim, I see how valuable this is. I could use this to change my life, but then they go into circumstantial thinking. I'm stuck. I don't have enough. I mean, I don't have enough money. I don't have enough time. I don't have enough energy. Those are all smokescreen excuses we give ourselves. To not do this one thing I want to mention next.
So, I've noticed that when I do training, People trust me because they know that I know what I'm talking about. And I explain it in a way that makes a lot of sense. But see, that's only one part of the equation. This is what pertains to you. I can do my job. Like I'm doing right now, the second delivers the content. But if you don't do your job, then it's really not going to help you. And you're going to, you're going to stay in homeostasis, which basically just means equilibrium, nothing changes, nothing gets, you know, nothing changes. But here's the second thing. You might even trust me and that's important. But if you don't trust yourself to take action and that's bigger than trusting me. Because I have, for example, on my programs, I have a hundred percent guarantee. Literally. I let people go through the entire program. They have to invest when they start, because they have skin in the game. But if people ask me for a refund, I've had less than I think six or seven in six years. We'll give them a hundred percent refund as long as they can prove they did the work and turned in their homework.
Even with a guarantee like that. Many people still want to go into the Transformational Program. Transformational Coaching Program, but they don't do it. Because they don't trust themselves to do the homework, to show up to be able to pay for it later, whatever it might be. That's not a matter of trusting me. That's a matter of trusting yourself. And if that resonates with you, ain't nothing going to change in your life. Nothing for the grammar Nazis. Nothing is going to change in your life. If you don't actually take action on doing something, and if you don't crush yourself, you're not going to take action. At some point, you have to say, you know what? My life is not going to change. I'm okay with where it is. Nothing's going to change. I'm not going to take action. I'm not going to make progress. And I'm going to stay right here where I am or. The big or you got to take action and to take action. You got to trust yourself and to trust yourself, you've got to gather more skills and more knowledge and more wisdom, which are the things that all the proceeding episodes in this, you know, my podcast talks abo determination. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. But if you don't have confidence in yourself to have those things, or at least some of those things, you won't take action. And again, Let's say it again. If nothing changes, nothing changes. If I don't change, then nothing changes.
And then finally personalization. Then what we do, and this is toxic, and I've done this for many years of my life. I don't do it anymore. But then what we do is personalize. We personalize a lack of action. And then what we do is we misidentify the lack of action. By personalizing it. We miss identify it as I'm lazy. I'm unmotivated. I just can't do it. I am the kind of person I'm too busy all the time. I don't have time. And then we personalize and make it about us. And the reality is it's not about us. We're personalizing the external environment and making it about us and it's not about us. So, the fact that you're not taking action is not about you. It's also about your brain. Your brain. As I said, when I started, there's a part of the brain. It's called different things, but the general consensus is the reptilian part of the brain, the older part of the brain. It's the brain part of the brain doing this, not you, but then what happens? The brain does its job. And when the brain does its job, we make it about us.
So, if we're in the habit, for example, of not being motivated to work out. Just as an example. So, we might be in the habit of not working out. Then what happens is we don't work out. But then what we do instead of recognizing it's part of our brain doing it, we personalize it about ourselves generally to terror selves down saying. You know, I'm just lazy blah-blah-blah, I'm just unmotivated. Blah-blah-blah whatever we personalize, we feel bad about it because now we've identified as that kind of person, which keeps us as that kind of person. Hints. No change.
Let me segue from the episode for just a moment. When we started this episode, I told you I would tell you a little bit more about the Be Do Have series. That's now live. Over the years, we've had hundreds of thousands of people go through the Be Do Have series, and we're probably going to have, it's looking like right now, between 20 and 30,000 people going through the series happening. There's still plenty of time for you to get registered and for you to join in, do the homework and to catch up. You may have heard me ask people in the last eight podcasts, what would be possible for them to get the level of change they've gotten just with the podcast. And you heard, if you've listened to the last eight episodes, you heard every one of them say, absolutely not. They got into coaching with me and to the Transformational Coaching Program, and that took them to where they are in life. And you probably listened to many of the recent episodes and people have done extremely well with many things in their life, their health, their relationships. They're money and then all aspects of their life. Something that I talk about in the Be Do Have series, which is happening right now, you're listening to this podcast through your filters. Your filters are your blind spots. So, your blind spots, keeping you, they keep you from seeing what you need to see so you can execute on what you're learning here. That's why you, yes, maybe you, you listen to the podcast. You get some, some great information. Your life changes a little bit, but it doesn't change dramatically. Why? Because you can't get the content into your context, which is your subconscious identity. This is why it's important for you to actually register for the Be Do Have series so you can begin to understand more about content versus context. Content is what you think. Right now, you're thinking about content. Context is how you think and how you think subconsciously. No matter how many episodes you listen to, your context, meaning how you see yourself, your self-image subconsciously, is going to work for you or for many of you, against you, because if you've got old limiting subconscious beliefs about you're not good enough, you're not worthy, people don't like you, you're afraid to be seen, you're afraid to show up, you're stuck, you can't get out of your rut, I'm not good enough, people are going to judge me, etc., etc., etc., etc., that's going to cloud everything else that you're actually learning here, and listening to here. This is why I created the Be Do Have series to take you to a higher level. Remember, the Be Do Have training series is meant to take you beyond what you're doing right now. There's still plenty of time to catch up by watching the videos, participating in the training and joining the live Facebook group. It's normally 97, but because you're listening to the podcast, I'm going to give you a code to unlock the training at no charge. If you're ready to take the podcast to the next level and to take your transformation to the next level, then go to jimforton.com /bedohave. That's jimfortin.com/bedohave and enter the code, the word podcast to access free training. If you're serious about transformation and you really want to go beyond the podcast, then whatever you do get registered for the Be Do Have series. Okay, back to the interview, and I will also see you in the BE DO HAVE series training.
So, let's go over these and dig in and slow down here a little bit. So back to the first thing that I covered, if nothing changes nothing changes. If you don't change then nothing's going to change in your life. So, where you have to go at this point is ask yourself, where’s my resistance coming from. You know, Jim's giving me or whoever you're listening to is giving me valuable tools. And they give me the opportunity to work with them or to coach with them or to do something or to go to the next level and I don't do it. Well, don't personalize it. It's your brain getting into fear. This is why many of you have tried to change before and you have failed because many times you'll pull back because it's, it's fearful for many of us to change brain-based so we'll pull back and we'll only play like 10%, meaning we'll play at 10% of our ability, our mental ability, our attention, whatever it might be and then a lot of people. Get into what's called learned helplessness. I see a whole lot of that.
Learned helplessness is, you know, what. I've tried to change in 10 different ways for 20 years, and I just can't do it. And then the person goes in the resignation and then they personalize it and feel bad about themselves. So, the fact that you haven't created the change that you want in your life has nothing to do not even 1% with your quality and character and value as a being on this planet. It has to do with the fact that I've said it probably 20 times on these episodes over the last several years. You're not changing in the way that your brain is designed to change. You're not operating in the way your brain is designed to operate, to get you the outcomes that you want. And then many times what we do is, we will say things like. You know what that's okay. I'm a failure. I'm just gonna, you know, it's okay. And we feel bad about it.
And then many times I ask people when I'm, by the way, talking to you right now, when I use the words many and most this isn't my first rodeo. I've interacted with hundreds of thousands if not millions of people. So then what we do as many times people actually say, well, you know, they'll even agree. If nothing changes, nothing changes. A liot of us all say, where are you going to be a year from now? And people will say, well, I'm going to be in the same place. No. If nothing changes in your life you don't stay in the same place you go backwards. Why? Because you lose time. That's all you have on this planet is time, even though time is an illusion. You lose the experience and the opportunity of living in the moment. So, what happens instead of growing and progressing? Like I talk about you go backwards.
Now the challenge here, and I don't mean to instill any fear in anyone. But it's definitely worth considering this. So, we want to create more in life. Then we don't then we say, well, okay, you know, nothing changes and it's what it is. And a year from now, I'll be in the same place. But the reality is we're not in the same place. But how about this? How many years of opportunity cost and money and things have you lost because you keep staying in the same place. So, what happens is many times we dig yourself a deeper hole and we dig a deeper hole, which then causes more fear and anxiety. And it's harder to get out of the whole. So, if you're waiting and you could be waiting and giving yourself excuses or whatever. If you're waiting to do something else or something you need to do to change and you don't do it. You're going to keep waiting. And what I want you to take away from this part of the episode. Broken strategy.
See everything you do has a strategy. Brushing your teeth is a strategy. We habitualize the strategy. Not even know we've habitualized it, but you go through a certain, you know, steps, certain sequence to brush your teeth, to go to the bathroom, to get dressed in the morning, to even live your entire day. And if you're going into what I just talked about, that's a broken strategy. Not meaning going for your day but prior to that, that's a broken strategy and the broken strategy is not going to change. As long as you're working the broken strategy, the broken strategy keeps you from taking action. You're not taking action. You're not making progress. You're not making progress. Then the feedback loop continues of not making progress and that pushes you farther down.
So again, I'm not meaning to scare anyone. I certainly just want you to look at the consequences of your strategies. And your thought processes and behaviors. If you're getting what you want. That's great. If you're not getting what you want, the strategies are broken strategies. And the only way to create change is for you to change by using different strategies, meaning by taking action and doing different things. And then what happens is number two. Or I should say rather also what happens not then what happens also, what happens. And I've alluded to it already, so I won't spend a lot of time here. But your brain completely controls, manages, influences, and dominates. What do you think you can change? Why? Because I said earlier, you cannot outperform your identity. So whatever identity you learn. You stay in that identity; you can't see outside the identity.
So, for example, I could take anyone listening right now, and I could say you could be a millionaire in 12 months and I'm telling you right now. There'll be, this is what's going to happen. 95% of you are going to say no way no, hell 4% of you will say, oh, okay. Okay. Let's bring it on. But, you know, what of that 4% 90% of those a year from now will find themselves no further along. Why? Because they're getting into false motivation, analytical, prefrontal cortex thinking. Meaning they're not a billionaire at their subconscious level, but what if you were already a millionaire at the subconscious level? And I said, you can be a millionaire. Then you'd believe me in a heartbeat, and you become even more of a billionaire, or if you're already wealthy, you'd become a millionaire. Even if you're doing well, you'd become a bigger, or what's the word? You'd become a millionaire with more millions.
Why? Because your brain can only work in the subconscious identity and frame you have created. This is why you have to escape your current identity and create a new identity. Go back to the earlier episodes and look for other episodes on the word identity and the concept of identity. You can never outperform your identity. This is why you could only think. What you think you can think about. I'll say it again. You can only think what you think you can think about. This is why poor people they've conditioned the identity being poor. They might daydream very quickly like fleeting about being rich and that's fleeting before you know it, their brain is right back on the neural pathway again, of being broken. So, they're only thinking within the context of being broke, you know, it's really interesting to me. And I've seen some research on this. That many times, if I walked up to people and said, I want to give you $10,000 in cash. And I haven't done that, but I've seen some research on this and people doing it. I want to give it to you. I saw a guy one time that wanted to give people a gold coin.
It was a real gold coin. And this is back when gold was a thousand dollars an ounce. Now it's 2000 an ounce, or it's like actually like 1823 today. Whenever I'm recording this podcast. And people have been offered a gold coin where the thousand dollars. And 95% of people. Didn't want the coin. Why? They're framing, what is their subconscious and brain-based framing. Their framing is nobody's going to get me a thousand dollars who gives away gold coins. That's stupid. That's ridiculous. People don't do that. So, notice the framing is already proceeding the opportunity in front of them. And that's how we work because its brain based. So however, you have your opportunities in front of you, framed is how you're going to proceed with your action or your lack of. You know, your, your lack of action either way. I think I said the same thing twice. That's how you're going to proceed, by taking action or not action. Is with the frame you already have.
This is why it's vital, vital to the nth degree to change your subconscious identity. Next point I want to make. So, you're thinking, okay, Jim, I get it progress. I want to make progress. All right. There are some requirements. Number one, you've got to pick a path. You've got to decide where you're going to make progress. But the reason a lot of people don't do that is because you're in their perfectionism and they're afraid you're going to make a mistake or quote. Air quote, pick the wrong path therefore they do. They pick a path, but it's no path and they do the same thing over and over and over again. But you've got to pick a path. And if you don't pick a path and take action. Nothing is going to change for you. I'll talk more about that in just a moment, but I want to share a concept here deeper psychologically. I've shared it before. And I share this in the Be Do Have series coming up next week. It's called identity confirmation. We all have an image of how we think we see ourselves. I'll slow down. I'll take a breath because I'm moving really fast in this episode. All this stuff's just flying through my brain. But we have an image of how we see ourselves. And the reality is, as I said, we don't operate outside of that image. And we don't operate outside of that image. Because if we were to operate outside of that image that would challenge our identity.
Now think back to what I said. There's a part of the brain that doesn't like to change it does survival mechanism. So, if you think you know who you are. You can then accurately predict what you think is going to happen tomorrow. Predictability is also part of the older part of the brain that is wired in the brain. As long as you think it's that survival mechanism. As long as you think you can predict what's going to happen later. You're safe. Even if you don't like the status quo of what's going to happen later. As crazy as it sounds. Guess what? At least you can predict it. And if you can predict it, at least you're safe in the comfort zone that you're in.
Let me show you how this really, really, really, really creeps up on people and hurts some. Okay. Let's say that I don't know where you are in life right now, but let's say that you're 40 years old. And if you're like 90% of Americans. Actually, let's go to 80%. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. If you're like 80% of Americans, you have no savings and I'd have to assume these numbers probably translate all around the world to some degree minus that you know, a little bit, but not a lot. Humans are humans. So, let's say that you're 40 years old. And you're broke. You don't have any money. What we tend to do, what's called Parkinson's law. I'll tell you about that in just a minute. What we tend to do is think, okay. I want to retire later in life. When I'm 65 or 70. Right now I have no savings. But that's okay. I've got 25 years to save money and I will get to it later.
The reality is we don't get to a later because of Parkinson's law. Again, I'll go there and just for a moment. So then what do we do. As we don't do anything differently. Why because we work from, I have time. You don't have time because according to numbers today in 2023, If you wanted to retire today. You need $2.5 million in assets to retire today. You're listening right now. I'm going to tell you right now, 95% of you don't have that, but yet you think you have time for that. So, you don't have to change anything because you think you have time. That is your brain part of your brain working against you again, you don't have time. Now you have time because you're on the planet, but you don't have time because those 25 years or whatever. Is it going to pass like a lightning bolt? Any of you that are in your fifties or sixties can tell people in your thirties and forties. Metaphorically this is what I tell people. You got to bet a 25, you wake up at 55. You look in the mirror and you say, what the hell happened? Where's the last 20, 25, 30 years of my life. That's how quickly it goes.
So just be mindful. Parkinson's law that law is whatever timeframe you're given to do a task. Many times, you will take the last part of the timeframe. To do the task. So, if I were to tell you, your deadline is on Monday, many times, we're like, ah, okay. Deadlines are on Monday, but it's only a week prior now. I've got seven days before the deadline. And so, I can wait to do it later in the week. Then we find ourselves crunching on Sunday night stressing and obsessing why? Because we had the entire timeframe, and we didn't use it because of Parkinson's law.
But see, that's how we live our life. Therefore, part of that also keeps us from doing the things we need to do to create a change changing now, to create the outcome that I want in life when I'm 70, whatever it is for you, me, I'll never retire. The day I retire, someday, I'm going to leave the planet. I will do what I do until I leave the planet. Whenever that is. Now many of you think, okay. You know what Jim. This is all great. And I understand it all. But you know what, you're still trapped in your blind spots. Why? Because it's you who created the trap with your current level of thinking. Einstein said something along the lines of that you can't solve a problem that was created from the same level of thinking. You have to go to a higher level of thinking. So, is it you’re thinking that created your blind spots itch? You're thinking that created a lack of money in your life right now. It's you’re thinking that created everything that you don't have in your life right now. Then what do we say as well. I want something different. Now, recognizing that I am the one who created it. If I'm the one who created that, I'm the one who can uncreate it. But, and only when I think from a higher level.
But if you don't know how to think from a higher level and you don't, or you wouldn’t have created it in the first place. You repeat your old patterns over and over and over and over again. Then, what we do is we get into self-deception saying, well, maybe next time it'll be different or maybe things will change or that's okay. Things are going to be different next year when the economy turns around. Nine times out of 10, we find that is not true. Okay. Couple of more here and we'll start wrapping up this episode. You know, I talked about self-trust. You've got to trust yourself. Bottom line. You and this trust me, I'm telling you don't trust me. I'm just, I learned this long ago by looking at myself, I had a coach. And she was coaching me on this about 20 years ago. She was very kind, very compassionate. And she said, Jim, the most valuable thing that you can do is learn to trust yourself. Not in trust myself, not because I didn't think I was smart enough for whatever. I didn't trust myself because I used to work from perfectionism. Meaning I got to get it right. And if I couldn't get a right or I didn't have the exact instruction or know the exact roadmap. Many times, I wouldn't take action, which meant I would stay in my place because I was working from, I don't trust myself to get it as right as I think it needs to be.
So, I've covered this. Progress is the name of the game. Life has progress or not, but life is an experience. And you have to decide what you're going to do in this experience. Are you going to actually take action? And, you know, work towards progress or are you going to do nothing differently, but yet hope that things are going to change, which they don't, which I've already covered and the last, however many minutes that I've been, you know, on this episode. You've got to trust yourself. And it's like leaving your comfort zone. If you don't leave your comfort zone. You won't leave your comfort zone. I ask I request right that down please and put it on your mirror, put it in your car, put it on the refrigerator somewhere. If I don't leave my comfort zone, I won't leave my comfort zone. Why is it because the comfort zone, no matter how crappy it is at loose, we can predict the comfort zone. Therefore, we don't leave the comfort zone, but when we, when we leave the comfort zone, we're like, whew, okay. I can do X, Y, Z. People don't hate me as badly as they thought they did.
And I am pretty good at RNI. Pretty good at dancing and I am pretty good at math, and I am pretty good at showing up. But we don't know that until we leave the comfort zone. So then next, you got to trust yourself. And this is what I tell people. You know what, none of us get life right. Because getting a life. Right. I mean, what does that mean? There is no right. We're simply having different experiences. But this is the way that I look at it. My mentor, Peggy Dean. Taught me this many, many years ago. Very powerful mentor. She said to Jim something that a lot of people never think about is they're afraid to make a decision and take action. Because they're afraid to make a wrong decision. But what we don't think about, and therefore we don't trust ourselves to make a decision. Are we don't think about, hey, Can I re decide? If I make a decision and I don't get the outcomes that I want, can I re decide? Can I make another decision? That's where trust needs to be. Not on the outcome of the decision. But on trusting ourselves to make a decision. And if we never trust ourselves on making a decision, comfort zone, comfort zone, comfort zone, we never do it. Hints, no progress.
So, when someone, whether it be me or someone else, offers you the opportunity to dramatically change and improve and transform your life. Take them up on the opportunity, if not, you're falling right back into every subconscious identity and brain-based trap that I just shared with you. And you just need to accept the fact that nothing's going to change if you don't change. That's the reality. That's the bad news. Okay. What's the solution. What's your transformational takeaway? Nike nailed it. Just do it. Now and just doing it. We want to do whatever it is we want to do, do our due diligence. I mean, I do my due diligence. If I'm going to invest. Like for example, I have a business coach right now. The guy costs a hundred thousand dollars per year. But you know what? Hey. I know who this person is. I've known them for many years. I know their track record. I mean, I didn't do my due diligence because I know them. I've watched this person become who they are over the years. And they're a big name and internet marketing.
And so, but if I didn't know them, I would have to do my due diligence. Do your due diligence before making a decision, but the reality is. You've got to actually decide to do something, and you've got to take action on it. If you don't do that then expect nothing different. In your life. And just be mindful. And the back of your mind is like kids in the back seat. It's your brain. Part of your brain is going to be going. Whoa, whoa, wait, wait, wait, wait. Whoa, whoa, whoa, stop. Stop. Stop. That's not you, which you may have personalized in the past. That is part of your brain talking you out of change. Why pop quiz? Why. Part of your brain needs identity confirmation and predictability. It has to have those things to continue to operate for it, and it's going to operate anyway. But then it puts us in fear and all those kinds of things. Okay. So, your transformational takeaway. Do your due diligence. Study, learn before you take action on something a little bit. No need to overlearn but just take action. Just do it. Thanks for listening and I'll catch you over in another episode. Bye-bye.
