EPISODE 309: “What Is The Original Meaning Of Life?”

February 28, 2024

In this episode, we delve into the intriguing question: What is the original meaning of life? Unlike the more commonly posed question about life's meaning, we're searching for the essence that predates our personal interpretations and societal imprints.

Through a simple exercise involving words with different connotations, I illustrate how personal and societal lenses color our perceptions. Whether it's a luxury car, a concept, or an ideology, the meanings we attach are deeply rooted in our personal history and societal conditioning.

This realization leads us to a critical understanding: much of what we believe to be the intrinsic meaning of life and its components is actually a tapestry of inherited beliefs and interpretations. We often navigate life guided by these meanings, rarely stopping to question their origin or their truthfulness to our inner selves.

Listen, apply, enjoy.

You're listening to the Transform your Life from the Inside Out podcast. This episode is titled, What is the Original Meaning of Life? Notice, I didn't say the meaning of life. I said the original meaning of life, because as you'll hear in this episode, all of us give meaning to and about life and have meaning about life. But most times, that meaning is not an original meaning. That meaning comes from our indoctrination and our socialization. So, the question is, what is the original meaning of life? Keep listening.

Hi, I'm Jim Fortin, and you're about to start Transforming your Life from the Inside Out with this podcast. If you're wanting a lot more in life to feel better, to heal, to have peace of mind, to feel powerful and alive, and to bring more abundance and prosperity into your life, then this podcast is for you because you're going to start learning how to master your mind and evolve your consciousness. And when you do that, anything you want then becomes possible for you. I'm glad you're here.

Okay, so what is the original meaning of life? Let's do this I want to give you 10 words, and as I give you these 10 words, think about what these words mean to you. Do they have a positive charge? Do they have a negative charge? Do they have no meaning whatsoever? Are you attaching, you know, negative thoughts about the meaning or positive thoughts about the meaning? Are you ready? Here we go. We'll do this very quickly. First word, Rolls Royce. Second word, Italian. Next word, Pickles. Next word, Hospital. Next word, Sex. Next word, Putin. Another word, Satanism. Another word. Christianity. Another word. American. And then finally, the last word. Sick. Okay, notice the meaning. As I was picking these random words, and I just picked them randomly, and I even threw one in there that notices the word Satanism.

That might have some negative charge for some of you guys. I totally get that, but that's the reason I picked the word. Because I want you to recognize, and if you're living maybe, you know, somewhere near Russia or Ukraine, maybe when I said Putin, that has a different meaning for you, or if you're living in Dallas, Texas, maybe, which I tell you there are more mega churches in Texas and you can shake a stick at. Christianity may have either had a positive word for you or a negative word. And even the word Mormon, if you live, you know, in Utah or Salt Lake City, the word Mormon.

Now, what I want you to notice, all these words are just words representing concepts, but you're the one based upon your past experience who put a meaning on that word. So, what we do is we make meaning of the world based upon our point of a reference. Now let me share what I mean about that. Let's say that you have a lot of money in the bank right now, assets, homes, cars, whatever it might be. So, when I say money, you would put a different meaning on the word money and concept of money than let's say someone that's living paycheck to paycheck.

What about this? Homes. Have you ever driven by homes that maybe are out of your price range, out of your price point? And what meaning are you making about those homes and people who live in those homes? Here's another one. Work. What meaning do you make of that? Do you make, Oh my God, work's a grind? Or I love my work. A couple more. Relationships. What's your meaning? Automatically, some people listening right now are saying, I want a relationship so badly. I'm tired of being alone. I want to be with someone. Other people are saying, hell no, I've been married three times. Getting married in a relationship is the last thing that I want.

Again, notice meaning. All right. Let me give you an example hereof. And I'll give you examples of meanings, you know, for, yeah, I don't have it anymore, but I'm going to buy another one because I miss it. But I drove a Porsche for three years. I love that car. If you like to drive, I mean, in my opinion, my meaning hands down, I mean, Porsche, they used to say many years ago, there is no substitute. Amazing, amazing, well-built vehicle. Now I remember many years ago before I bought the Porsche or right after I bought it, I was reading some online reviews of the Porsche and the one that I was buying. And a lot of reviews were positive. And then one of the people in the blog said, well, only assholes drive a Porsche.

Now that was their meaning on it. I thought to myself, well, I don't think I'm an asshole. I mean, I'm, I'd like to think I can be a nice guy and I'm a nice guy. So, then I recognized back then it's just a hunk of metal. That's all that it is. Metal and rubber and plastic and fluid and everything else. But its people putting meaning on that car. So, when I said Porsche, somebody could say, Oh, I want one amazing car. Someone else could say, well, only assholes drive Porsches. It doesn't matter. Same car.

But what I want you to notice, different meanings were put on the car based upon that person making the meaning, their externals and their past history, meaning what they've come to understand as a meaning about that vehicle and what it represents. So, here's what I want to share in this episode is we are all making meaning of life as we go through our days. But most of us are making meaning from our past. What that means, talking about meaning, is that we're not making a meaning about something that happens right in front of us, you know, right in front of us right now, and having an original meaning and thought about that.

We're making a meaning from what we've been conditioned to think at some point in the past. And our meaning of life is based upon what we've learned to be the concept of meaning. You know, as, as I said, I can pick arbitrary words. Let's say that I said the word gold right now, you might not have any clue about any meaning on that. But yet people who buy gold could say, and I haven't checked in a couple of days. I watched, I watched investments and et cetera, just for fun. But I think gold was probably around, around 2020 bucks an ounce. And what could that meaning mean? Let's say that you bought it at a thousand dollars an ounce. You could say, well, that means I made a hell of a lot of money because I bought a thousand ounces back you know, 10, 12 years ago, or you could say it means that I can't afford it. But notice the meaning comes from your, your, your space where you are in the world and your reference point in the world. So, you're not giving gold original meaning. You're giving gold meaning based upon your experience. So when people ask you, what's the meaning of life, do you notice how it's impossible to give any objective meaning of life because we're constantly filling in the meaning of life with our subjective experience and whatever our reference point is in time and space and giving meaning there.

So, what we do is we actually give things a meaning. What we're not recognizing is that we're giving things a meaning. And then once we give that thing a meaning, it becomes that thing to us. But that thing might not even have that meaning. What I mean is, like the Porsche, I could say, for example, like a person earlier, people who drive Porsches are assholes. Well, that has nothing to do with the original meaning and value of a Porsche. Whereas somebody else could say, amazing cars, I love my Porsche, a different meaning. But notice the meaning that a person gave it in the moment comes from their past history. Then what we do, as we learn the meaning in life to things, we learn these as a kid, we learn them, you know, as children about what it means, be polite, be this, be respectful, and these are all things.

Maybe you haven't even noticed that I'm sharing from my past history because I learned that it's important to be nice and, and wait, your place in line and all those kinds of things, which in a lot of ways are, are, and have been limitations as well. But I learned the meaning of things as a, as a small kid by mom and dad and society, here's what happens. Let me segue to a quote first. It's not even a direct quote, but kind of a quote, is the Buddha said something like first we create our habits and then our habits create us. So, meaning we do what we do, we do it repetitively, we create a habit, and then the habit becomes habitual, and then we become the habit, not even knowing we become the habit.

Same thing with a meaning. We create the meaning through experience. And then what happens is once the meaning has been created through experience, that's not original meaning, that's the meaning somebody gave us. Once we've learned the meaning through experience, then what happens is we become that meaning and live that meaning, never ever again evaluating the, you know, the, this, the subjective meaning we gave it, and could there be a more objective meaning to something? And then what we do is many of us go through life metaphorically on a merry go round and that meaning is our existence. Whatever we make things mean, whatever the government means or whatever poverty means or whatever sex means. Or whatever divorce or relationships or loaded words, emotionally loaded words, cancer, brain tumor, stroke, heart failure, you know, liver disease, whatever it might be.

And, you know, the great example. It's how it was the best example ever. I had heart failure and a stroke in 2020 and I'm thrilled I had the experiences literally they were hard as hell. That was my experience and the meaning I put on them, but I observed how doctors. Tried to create all this meaning for me about what the world is and what it's not relative to and specific to healing. Doctors gave me very outdated meanings of what happened to me, what it meant. Now I was talking about, you know, earlier when I said health and liver, blah, blah, et cetera, but many times when we are given certain diagnoses, and it can be about health, it can be about finances, it can be whatever in life, somebody gives us something, and there's no original meaning to it, it's a subjective meaning, and even you can say, well, medical research demonstrates blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But even that doesn't, I mean, human science is baby science.

So, the meaning you're being given by doctors, and I'll talk about this a little more, is the meaning created in that mind or minds of the doctors. And most doctors know nothing about healing. They know about diagnosing mechanically what's going on in the body, but it doesn't mean they know about healing. So therefore, they give you interpretations of what you're going through. And many times, we accept their manufactured interpretations and meanings of what it means to have XYZ going on in our body and it takes our power away. So, what we have to recognize is that oftentimes society, society creates our life by giving us meaning. We learn the meaning as a child and then we recreate that meaning year after year after year after year. And you know, to prove this to you, you can walk up to 10 people right now. And you could say, what's the meaning of life? Number one, probably 10 out of 10. Maybe not, maybe 9 out of 10, but probably 10 will give you a meaning of life based upon something external. Now, what I want you to notice, and maybe this applies to you, the amount of people, at least in the US, that live their life entirely by external meaning When they are infinitely powerful, infinitely powerful spiritual beings, they give all the power from that spiritual being to the subjective human limited meaning of life.

So, if you were to walk up to 10 people and say, Hey, what's the meaning of life? You notice you're going to get 10 different answers again, based upon experience. Now another example here in the same vein is neither of these people are on the planet anymore. But if you walked up to Jeffrey Dahmer now, by the way, I personally wouldn't want to do it because I'm making meaning about Dahmer. But if you were to walk up to Jeffrey Dahmer. If you don't know who he is, he was an American serial killer, not serial, serial killer. There we go. He didn't kill post hostess. Uh, he killed people and I think he killed like 20 people or something. And you asked Dahmer, what's the meaning of life? And then you ask mother Teresa, what's the meaning of life?

You're going to get different answers from Mother Teresa, I would hope, than you're going to get from Jeffrey Dahmer. Then, you can ask the guy who killed Jeffrey Dahmer in prison, you know, what did you, you know, how come you killed Jeffrey Dahmer? And you're going to get a meaning for why that guy did that. The whole point of this episode and I'll drill it down a little further is Take some time to ponder right now all the meanings about your life and what is possible for you now most of this you're living subconsciously at this point. Remember first we create our habits and then our habits create us first We create the meaning and then the meaning creates us.

But the question is with your limitations Things that hold you back, things that stop you, where did the meaning come from? What past experiences, you know, created those meanings? I was just on a coaching call a few minutes ago in TCP and this person was saying that they felt other, no, that's not their words, but I'm going to use these words because it factors into the podcast. But the person was basically saying that because of my height and the way that I look, people are making meaning, not picking, people are making meaning about me. And then she felt bad because she was making meaning about her thought that other people were making meaning about her physical appearance.

Now from the outside, to be very candid, I think she is a beautiful human being and has an amazing heart. That's the meaning that I'm making. But the meaning she was making, she learned as a child from her parents about her ethnicity, about her height, about her weight and everything else. And she wasn't making any meaning or finding meaning and value in her life based upon who she is today on a heartfelt level. She was making her meaning out of her past history.

So, let's expand your frame a little bit. So, all the meaning that you're making on the planet for the most part has been made on the planet. But what if we expanded that meaning on the planet and then actually looked at your meaning as a human being from and a spiritual being human slash spiritual being from a bigger lens? Because right now you're making your meaning about life based upon your 3d context your past history and your experience on the planet. But what if you lived on another planet and you watched you on this planet, living your life as you are on this planet and you living on another planet knew how extraordinarily powerful human beings are.

So, you're watching this being this little being on this little planet called earth from another position, meaning from somewhere out in outer space. And you're watching this human being living on the planet, making all the meaning, but yet you know, living off the planet, how extraordinarily powerful that human beings are. What if you looked at your life from that perspective, how would you make meanings differently? And what kind of different meanings would you make if you were not making your meanings from your 3D limited experience? But you were making your meaning based upon a higher vision, a higher point of seeing your life.

Okay. I want to segue from the episode for just one moment. And I want to ask you, where were you most stuck in 2023? What things held you back the most? When I ask people, you know, why they're not getting what they want in life, people often say, well, I was stuck with X, Y, Z, or, and this may resonate with you, I feel stuck. If you're feeling stuck, one question I want you to ask yourself. Is, what is it costing me? What is it costing me to not resolve this and to battle being stuck? And when you add that up, whether it's money and especially in business, but in your health and your relationships, when you add that up, it's extremely costly to be stuck in life.

Now, all that's being said, I created a new. challenge I created that last year, many thousands of people have gone through it and it's called the Get Unstuck Challenge. Interesting, the name's all about getting unstuck. Now in this challenge, it's a nine-day challenge and I walk you through at a very profound At a very spiritual, level, and even at a cosmic level, I walk you through who and how you're being as a being, meaning your presence on the planet. And when you understand that, when you understand the nature of you at a very deep level, now you might've heard me say, Be Do Have before, and that's more about 3d reality.

Who do you have to be so you can do so you can have, but I'm talking, you know, what does it mean to be? And then what is that power associated with that? When you understand that you automatically get unstuck in life. This program never offered it before to you guys. We're offering it now. I don't think we've offered it to the podcast in an ad. Maybe we have, maybe we have, I don't remember anyway. It doesn't matter because we haven't offered it. A lot. of we have, but we're offering to get unstuck challenge again. It's only $97. Thousands of people have been through it and they rave about the results they're getting. And I know that you will do the same thing.

So again, ponder the question. What does it cost me? What am I giving up? What peace of mind? What happiness? What money? What relationships am I giving up in life because I am stuck in my own crap. Now, as you're thinking about that, click the link, go to tcp.jimfortin com/unstuck again, and we'll drop the link in the show notes, tcp.jimfortincom/unstuck. Download the program. You get started right away and your life will start changing dramatically. When you apply what you're learning in that program, your life will start changing in very dramatic ways, very, very quickly. And as a matter of fact, in the next nine days. Okay, back to the episode.

Now, what inspired this episode? is I was thinking, and I want to do an episode on this and this word, a lot of people are not going to like it because they're making a meaning about it, is that many people live in victim and spiritual victim hood. They are spiritual victims and that kind of sounds oxymoronic. What do you mean a spiritual victim? I mean, I'm a spiritual being. How can that be a victim? Well, what they do is they incarnate into the body and because they incarnate in the body, they forget all the power they had, which was even the power to incarnate. They forget all that power and they become a victim to their experience on the planet. Therefore, they become a spiritual victim because they've given all their spiritual, their cosmic power away.

So, the question would be, you know, what if you were living on another planet and you were watching you on planet earth, what meanings would you be watching yourself make? And what observations would you be watching about your human self-living out on this planet? And you'd probably be sitting there shaking your head, metaphorically speaking, thinking, God, you know, I'm down here on that planet. I'm watching myself on the planet and I give all my power away to my petty fears, to my worries. What are the people are going to think? Are people going to judge me? Are people going to criticize you? People are going to say this and I'm not good enough and I'm exhausting. It's exhausting to live that way.

So, you know, I was, as I was thinking through this, creating this episode, It's almost as if we live or if we could live on another planet and watching human beings live on this planet and living out of their past history and their past interpretations and their past learning. And it's almost as if they're being controlled by, or they're being controlled like Marionette, uh, Marionette puppet, Marionette's puppets, right? Puppets. Anyway. Okay. There we go. I haven't thought of that word in a long time. Marionette, Marionette's puppets, but they're being controlled. By the interpretations and the meanings of other people.

So, ask yourself that question, how many other people control me based upon their interpretations that I've accepted as my interpretations and to what degree are these people controlling me, my happiness, my abundance, my prosperity, and my experience on this planet. So, something to ponder. So, the point of this episode is your meanings and your stories that you make from your past history and your past experience on this planet, mainly the ones you've learned from mom and dad, these meanings crap you. Don't believe me? This is why we have fourth generations of families in the United States on public assistance. Because a person learns first generation. We can't make it. We're going to struggle. We're on public assistance. So that's what we need. So, they teach that to the second generation who teaches it to the third, who teaches it to the fourth generation and it's passed down generationally, but it's all meanings. So how can you use this in a powerful way?

Any time you're stuck, by the way, you're never stuck, it's simply you're thinking. Any time you're in your fears or the reverse, you want to create something new. You can ask yourself, what, like a fear, what meaning am I making of this? So, you have to think about that as what meaning, because I'm a meaning making machine, that's what the brain does, what meaning am I making of this? And when I create these episodes, a lot just pops in my mind as I go, I don't have like a script or any of that, but I started thinking about, I was watching something recently and this kid, I think it was a 16 year old boy living in Montana who these people overseas got him, got him to, to, Text, text them pictures of himself nude.

So, we did. And then they told the kid they were going to reveal it to all of his friends and family and all this kind of stuff. Unfortunately, unfortunately, the kid committed suicide. And I don't want to use that in any way to capitalize on that. But as an example, unfortunately, that kid made a meaning about what it would mean if they release that picture to his parents or his friends or his family. And truth be told, they probably didn't have any of those people's contact information. Who knows? But there are a lot of scammers overseas and people that prey on people. And I look at that and the turmoil, the turmoil and how tormented that boy must have been thinking that I'm going to be devastated. I'm going to be embarrassed, whatever it might be. And it's simply meaning that he's making based upon the experiences of other people.

So, a good thing to do anytime in the best place, or the, I think the easiest place to use this is when you're in fears, you're frustrated, you're stuck, et cetera. You simply stop and you say, wait a minute, okay, what meaning am I making of this? And sit with that. And what you'll notice, your transformational takeaway is that your meaning is probably not the original meaning, which is you're divine. Everyone on the planet's equal. That's the original meeting, meaning you are divine. But in terms of human subjective meaning, there is no meaning. Now let me go there.

A lot of people who have not really explored this as deeply as I have will say, Oh, there's no meaning in life except the meaning you give it. Well, yes, that's a hundred percent true. There is no meaning except the meaning that you give it. But what I want to point out and go one step further, that's the gift you've been given by the creator. And that's a whole different podcast episode is you are a creator. And because you are a creator, you have the power to create any meaning for anything in your life. Ponder that. You have the power to create any meaning for anything and everything in your life. I'll say it again. You have been given by the creator. The power to create meaning of anything and everything in your life.

That's the power and the literally ground floor power of being a creator. You created all, even the meaning you place on meaning, and then that meaning creates your entire existence and your reality. So again, let's go back to. Any time you're stuck, ask yourself, Hey, okay, what meaning am I making from this? Because if you look at every one of your limitations, like that unfortunate young man who, who unfortunately took his life, what meaning he was making a meaning as of, as do other, other kids that's happened to you. So, ask yourself anytime you're stuck somewhere in life. Okay, what meaning am I making from this? And what are different meanings that I can make.

And where I go, I'm just telling you, I mean, talking to you, me to you personally, where I go is, I know, I don't, I don't know, but I know, but I don't know. I am an extraordinarily powerful, energetic, spiritual being that goes from lifetime to lifetime. I, I do know that. I mean, I know it at a core soulful level. So that I look at that. I don't like all these little ancillary stepping stones in life, or these little roadblocks. Many years ago, they would have shut me down. This day and age, I'm simply like, eh, okay, what meaning do I make of this? Now how can I look at this to create different meaning out of it, and then how can I create a meaning that's going to support me and my progress and my next step?

All right, I want to go one other place here very simply for a couple of minutes. Now, I recognize, and I, I'm not a rah rah, I'm not a motivational speaker. I don't really have bad days. I have some days that I like better than others, to be honest with you, but I don't really have bad days. And I've had a lot of challenging days the past 365 days, building a new house, moving into it unfinished, work being even more hectic and more program. It's been a lot. It's been a whole lot. And where I look at it is this. It can be very easy to become overwhelmed and what I tell people is this, overwhelmed is simply, I mean, we all get busy, but overwhelm is simply being busy without prioritization, meaning without prioritizing the busy work. I get that. I know that.

But it can be easy to be overwhelmed with all that I have going on. Now the easiest way for me. To shut this down and it's got me through a health crisis. It's gotten me through everything the last decade or so. Are you ready? You may want to write this down because it's true and you cannot argue with this. There's no way, no, how you can argue with what I'm going to share with you right now. And we'll wrap, wrap up this episode on that. When, after I had the stroke in 2020, after I had the heart failure, I was showering one day and I felt really bad. My body felt a little bit odd and I was like, Hmm, okay, I don't feel bad. There's something kind of wonky going on in my body right now.

Now if that's ever happened to you and you've ever, ever had a serious health crisis, it's very easy for your mind to take off like boom, like, like, like a rabbit or you know, a dog chasing a rabbit or race horses or whatever. I learned to shut it down. Any fear, any worry, as I've talked about in other places in the podcast, by simply this. And try this. It works. I promise you. Anything that you may be worrying about today, afraid about, in your mind about, you're overthinking, whatever. This is what I say to myself, and it stops it instantaneously.

Here we go. You may want to write this down. I'm making this shit up in my mind. I'm making this shit up in my mind. And if you're making a meaning about the word shit, you can put stuff in there, or the word thought in there. I'm making this thought up in my mind. When you recognize that at least you're making it up because you're making meaning on it, that takes all the power away from it. So, the whole point of this episode was to get you to start looking at the meaning you're placing on things and how they're being limiting, but also to recognize many. of the meanings, if not most of the meanings you make have been given to you from other people and by other people and those meanings steal your power from you as an infinite powerful spiritual being. Thanks for listening and I'll catch you over on another episode. Bye bye.
